Back in the late 70s or early 80s I fitted a pair of short reverse cone megers without baffles.
This most certainly increased the rip-roaring-snort-i-ness of my Commando and made it very LOUD.
I made other "sensible" (ha ha) mods and it ran pretty well like that for several years, including several trips
from SE England to South of France, but it was LOUD
Now I am a bit (actually a lot) deaf, but I blame that on hereditary and not loud music or loud motorcycles!

I lost half my hearing to musket and cannon noise during 17 years civil war reenacting wife says I have selective hearing

the dunstall sounded so good when you backed off from high rev's, there's no sound like it i had mine on the factory balanced exhaust, so they were not that much louded if my memory is correct...

other one came today I rushed to garage and put it on a 10minute job...started bike up sound great! deep throaty sound with no harshness I am very pleased

Two makes good gooder. Right?

Where's the pic of the gooder side?.... C'mon take it easy on me...Mama will give me holy hell when UPS comes to the door.... Not for a while yet because gotta throw money at doctors again. Can't even ride until they straighten out this neck & shoulder junk again, but I still wanna.

and I want a pair of those mufflers to sleep with too. I think they may have therapeutic properties.

My preferred set up back in the day...

As for the nut heads twisting inside the slotted bracket, I cut two pieces of steel strap to dimensions that will allow it to slip slip inside that slot. Once sized I drill and tap

I've had dunstal decibels on my bike for 40 years. They are loud, and get louder if I crack open the throttle. I use the volume occasionally to alert drivers who are driving in parallel lanes next to me if I feel they aren't aware that I'm riding along in their blind spot. They may be clueless drivers or distracted by their smartphone, but unless they are wearing ear plugs, I'm able to make my position known to them so they are less likely to cut me off.

They also sound great to me, but I bet others think they are a bit loud...

I would be careful using those as they are more than likely pretty soft...under #5. Research Fastenal or one of the other suppliers and see if you can locate something similar in a grade #5, 304.....Just saying because much better than putting a scratched up one back on....#8 is overkill big time.

took bike out for 40 mile ride this morning before heat arrives mufflers only fractionally louder than stock and I love the sound this church, MacPhela Presby. built in 1828 in Lincoln Co. Back in the 70/80s Dunstall silencers were sold to improve performance.
The bunch of tubes in the end baffle plate and the end baffle plate were painted red.
The red paint increased the top speed by 10 mph !:)
