Todays MCM has write ups on Norton and a couple of road tests. The one comparing the 961 against a R nine T is quite fair but I get the feeling they were being kind to the 961 !!. I got rid of my Nine t Racer S for my 961, and the 9t is far superior in every aspect except the most important one. I never sat in my Garage staring at it for hours. Grab a copy if you can.

I went to the NEC last year with the intention to get an R Nine T scrambler or pure and if not a Ducati Monster 1200, saw the 961 and immediately fell in love. The wife often catches me in the garage sitting in my chair drinking a beer and lusting after the 961, its difficult not to

Yup, I sold my tricked out R9T sport for a 961 and totally agree that the R9 is better in every measurable way.
But I love the 961 riding experience vs the clinical BMW experience and don’t regret it one bit!
In my opinion, the article is bang on, and well written, not too ‘dreamy’ or soft on Norton, a very accurate description.

Our very own Z1000eldorado is in the MCN article talking about his Domi Naked with a difference too!

And @ Sam... great write up of the California matey... as if you’re not in suspense enough already !!

Agree with W R have mates who come round to the man pit have a few beers and just look at it had 20 bikes around 3 weeks ago for a ride out brilliant.

Il need to go and buy a copy and check it out.

I was going to purchase and R9T. Are you guys serious about it being superior in every way as far as performance. That fork vs. the Ohlin? Those brakes vs. the Brembo's? The boxster is a fantastic engine, albeit fugly, the R9T is attractive, although covered in cheap plastics, and it just looks to busy and it's sure feels too small. Hey. Whatever. At least you think the 961 looks better. And it does.

Good questions and yes, you’re right to question us I think.

I had kinda overlooked the Ohlins shock and K Tech forks I’d added to mine!

Although I think the R9T brakes (at least the ones fitted to USD fork bikes) are good enough for anyone on the road. The 961s are better, but unnecessarily so for most of us mortals.

I'm blessed to have an RNine and a 961. My wife walked into the garage once and caught me talking to a motorcycle. Bear in mind the bike was drinking, I was not. She said "They're like children to you now! ". Busted.

Fast Eddie is about right. on the road, the difference twixt the BM suspension and the 961 Ohlins is not noticable on the road, if anything it makes the BM more ridable on todays Crappy surfaces, but some of the bits on the BM are after thoughts (Charcoal Canister !!) and there is a lot of plastic covering gaps and holes etc, and as for the rear sub frame ???. but it sounds nice with the dual Acros' the ABS is progressive but the Traction control is a bit intrusive. Nothing rattles, the gearbox is 1st touch and the motor sounds like it will last forever :) and by the time you add afew extras, it is near enough the same price as a 961. If only owned one bike then, and I hate to say it, but it wouldn't be the 961 !!!. But I am fortunate to own a few, so worst scenario, it blows up, and I have a Bay Window reserved for an expensive ornament !!.

Hmmm, I’d have to differ with you there, I definitely noticed a difference when I swapped my suspension out on the R9.

The rest I agree with, the BM motor certainly has that ‘will go forever’ feel to it.

Not sure I’d say that about my 961...

I've been getting the itch to fill another spot in the garage. I even took a look at the new retro Kaw Z. Didn't feel right. Going to take my time shopping around.

A new bonnie T120 ? I like the look of that Kaw 900Z too .. Maybe a R9T for you ? Or Air cooled Duc 1100 ?

I rode and like the Duc 1200S. I'd like something more two up though. 120 is a bit soft on suspension. Ill find the right one.
