Love the look of my CR but would like to see one with a Monza cap on the fuel tank - would add to the authenticity IMO.

Anybody know whether a conversion would be possible, or may have also pondered this option? Or do we think that it would spoil those beutiful lines?

Thoughts.

If it’s a plastic tank then IMHO it won’t look right as it’ll have to be a bolt in affair.
So yes, it would spoil the lines.

If it’s an alloy tank, a Monza is a must fit IMHO!

I agree.
A monza cap in the middle of the tank where the current NYLON tank has its opening would look peculiar.
the cap needs to be offset to right side for proper classic design.

All good points guys, thanks for the feedback.

And we certainly don’t want to risk our chins or scrotums! It’s not as though the bike is’nt already gorgeous!!!

I have always wondered why Norton went with nylon for the tank. It can’t be for cost saving with all of the other expensive goodies fitted!!!

Now this is a real Monza cap on a Norton! All the above comments about injury would seem to apply to this one in spades.

Before anyone gets excited over "butchering" an orginal Manx tank, I have to say we didn't do it. That's a mod that Reg Pridmore made way back when he fitted a Kawi 2-stroke triple into his Manx racer. I got it when I bought his Manx, which has since been restored by the guy I later sold it to. I wasn't real fond of the tank, and gave it to a friend who fell in love with it, so it's now on his race bike.

Dave, are you posting this in answer to my question in another thread about fitting a Monza cap to a 961 alloy tank?
Is a 961 alloy tank thread 2.5”x18tpi ?

Yes pretty sure it is, I found a boy on the norton owners club with a dominator and he has just fitted this. I’ve bought it anyway, was at the factory on Thursday checking progress hope to get the bike in next few weeks, will let you know if it fits and looks good:)

Thanks Dave, what’s your thinking tomsecure the cap to the threads, Arraldite or similar?
I wonder if PTFE thread tape would be enough?
And that way it could be always put back to original, because an original dominator in years to come might be worth a fortune ha ha!
I also bought a rubber washer 60mm dia with a 46mm id, as I have heard they do not seal very well on the boss of the tank, so the washer should help...

Rubber and petrol can be problematic mix unless it’s proper petrol proof stuff.

The challenge is it’s got to seal AND be in the right place...
