It's looking really sweet.
Don't forget to fold the thin washer on the steering shaft (between the nut for the upper yoke shaft and an opposite fold against the lower yoke. Unless you used locktite? That was an early way of tab locking the nut. Very similar as used on my series II Landrover wheel bearings. It's the English way. :wink:

Looking very nice indeed. May I ask what colour code you used for the white paint?

I've been able to come up with the red and blue codes, but the white paint has been an elusive one.

I'd like to get my blue stripe as close to original as possible but it seems that the white paint is problematic here in the U.S..

Hi Jerry,

That bike is FAR too clean.

When you have it finished & running I insist you ship it over to Ireland, at your expense of course, and I'll blast around the muddy, pot holed roads of Ireland during the worst of the winter months.

I don't mind making this sacrifice, getting wet & cold while riding your MK3 like I stole it, just log it up that you owe me one :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :D :D :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

Joking aside, fantastic job so far, can't wait to see & hear the finished project :mrgreen:
 
Superb rebuild Jerry well done mate, the bike looks good enough to eat! Now try and get the air box in :D


My next Norton will definitely be a Roadster in those same colours, always thought that colour scheme does not seem to date at all.

Lovely work , hand sunglasses out to all before viewings. Re; 750 style left-hand pipe bottom clearances to primary drain bolt make sure they don't connect /rub after final exh. tightening. Yes the airbox fit is a real joy !
 
Thanks for the good words. It has been a lot of work and money and I am ready to ride it. Normally I get so impatient towards the end of these rebuilds and I rush the end and of course that is the battery compartment and wiring. This time I am trying to be a neat as possible. I was wondering if there is normally a bracket for the assimulator? Mine is just a square box with no mounting bracket. I think to keep the battery area tidy I will mount it somewhere else. Or in-fact I might not even wire that warning light up. I never used one before. Normally I check charge at the beginning and I am done with it. Matt's advice to me was "Don't rush it at the end!". He is right. I was going to use OB aftermarket turn signals, the ones that look like Lucas ones, but the thread is too short for the front stems to work- weird. I have decided to use the signals Matt sells as they look real good. Original ones get loose. Anyway I am ready to wire. Those are the only 2 things left to mount. Turn signals and assimulator if I use it. Here are some photos of battery area. I am using a 4 fuse holder with a common feed. It has an LED that lights if a fuse blows. I will run down from the ignition switch to the common. I doubt I will use 4 fuses. At least one will be for lights and the other for ignition. Once done I have to take it to the DMV and try to get it registered in California as it has a Colorado registration. Hopefully it works after all this LOL

While my wife is sat watching some ballroom dancing drivel on the box, I'm sat here viewing porn. Nearly had to reach for the Kleenex. The worst thing about a bike being this clean & shiney, is riding it in the rain for the first time. Lovely job!

I have stopped my 75 MKIII “rewiring” project and have started stripping down for a complete rebuild. I am in awe of you craftsmanship and hope to come close with mine.
What process did you use to cleanup and dress your frame welds? They are the best joints I’ve seen in ages. Guess that will get a hobot comment.

Thanks for the good comments. I wish I had some time to finish it up. Been busy with work lately. As far as the frame goes, I didnt do anything, but its interesting. When I got the bike in parts, the frame had been powder coated, but it was a bad job. I took it to the local paint shop who sanded it and sprayed it with 2 part and it turned out incredibly well and seems to have smoothed out nicely. I was surprised there was no reaction.

Thats where I put mine. Its tight in there but it'll fit.
