MK3 kickstart lever

I've got one more question before the weekend wraps up. First a bit of context:

I've replaced a PO's aftermarket exhaust with Norton stuff over the winter, and I now have pretty significant kickstart lever/muffler interference. It's at least a half an inch of overlap and doesn't seem to get much better even when I'm pushing things in etc. Even if I have the pipe touching the frame it still looks like the lever is going to hit the muffler. I could try a bit of shimming, however, it does look like that may put the muffler into contact with the footrest bracket bolt.

So my question is: should I just accept that I require a MK 3 kickstart lever and order one, or should I keep messing around with all the things that can make a difference and hope this 1/2 inch obstacle goes away?

Some folks have bumped and ground things to get millimeters of clearance, but you have to really work it.
I bought a Mark 3 lever and got good clearance on my '74. I believe that RGM sells a lever that clears and has better
leverage. Others may have better information. I haven't used my kick start since installing cNw electric start kit.

RGM T160 folding kick start lever that has the Norton spline is the way to go is also longer for easier swing on the kicker and will miss the mufflers completely, they are better than the stock kickers in my opinion, RGM are very good to deal with and fast delivery to any where in the world.

Thanks lazyeye 6 and Ashman.

The mufflers I have don't have mounts that can be ground. They are Norton mufflers, but the mounting bits attached to them are probably for Triumphs, which limits my options.

If kickback even more serious, if it occurs, with the RGM folding lever?

Thanks again!

If you have kick back it will effect you with a stock kicker as well as a RGM one but I have only been kicked back once with the RGM kicker with no ill effect to my leg at all, with the longer leverage it proberly be less force in the kick back, if you are getting kick back maybe you should retard your timing just a little, there are a lot of Commando's using the RGM kicker and the folks using them have been happy with the results and the easy it makes with kicking the motor to life, my Norton is a very high compression with the work that has been done to it and I would never go back to a stock kicker, and when not being used its tuck right away from the back of your leg.

My 74 Mk2 has non crossover header pipes and stock AN silencers. Kicker is MkIII. Now mind that the gearbox is a TTI and uses Madass rear sets but
reverse lever. I tried the T160 type kicker and to my dismay could not get it to work with this setup. Just a note for those who are going the TTI
route. Honestly cannot remember if it will work with the stock foot rests.

Get a mk3 kickstsrt. I have no clearance issues now. It is also a little longer which is good.

Not sure I understand this thread. If stock silencers are mounted to stock brackets why is the stock kickstarter interfering?

It is british enginering. The stock components interfere and it requires a ot of swimming and prying to fix.

Thanks all! Very helpful.

Ashman, I did have some kickback happening, but it was a voltage issue rather than timing. But I hope to never experience it again, if at all possible. I would have thought that a longer lever would result in more severe bludgeoning. Has no-one yet graphed the intensity of suffering produced by the impacts of various lever types ;)?

Tornado, Baldy is correct, much ink has been spilled on the subject. And thanks Onder, that's good to know.
