RGM Folding Kickstart Lever

With standard foot pegs does this tuck in more than the standard lever? The standard lever always seems to be in the way and would enable me to move my foot fore and aft if it were more tucked in.

Only indication is that it will not work with some rearsets and is not suitable for MK3 with standard footrests.

It folds right away from your leg the spline also sticks out a bit further and will miss your pipes, its the best kicker I have ever used on my Norton and the extra lenght helps in kicking it, I can sit on the seat to start it and mine stays tight on the spline were my old kicker use the come loose all the time.

$100 for postage is a bit high I never paid that much to get mine sent over, but then I got mine about 7 years ago and delived by slow mail about 9 or 10 days all up, but if you want fast delivery thats where the cost go up.

Yeah, RGM shipping is no deal. I initially paid £55.00 to NZ, but that was later reduced to £28. Crazy.

I have the RGM folding kickstart on my 750 and its better on my bad back, and it tucks away nicely. Overall very happy with it.

Mine slid on easily, check the splines on your old kickstart shaft, they can distort from old kickstarts with dodgy splines and from various attempts to get them to stay on.

The shaft is only 3000 miles old and in perfect condition. I think I’ll pop the new lever in the oven, that should help things along

Hope you got it fitted ok.
I've found that I've often had to 'open-up' the splined part of kickstart and gear levers when first fitting by using a small wedge (or screwdriver) in the gap that is closed-up by the pinch bolt.
The folks that assembled Nortons originally weren't known as fitters for nothing!

All is good, an hour in the oven and it went on with a few very light taps with my soft mallet. The lever tucks in properly and I now have a choice of foot positions.

I never had an issue kicking my bike the biggest problem I had with the original level was it for me to ride with the arch of my foot on the peg which, for me, pushed my foot too far forwards for comfort. The new lever folds completely out of the way so on that front it is a vast improvement.

In operation the additional leverage makes it easier to turn the engine past compression prior to kicking it up but I haven’t really noticed any difference when actually kick starting, having said that the ease in getting it past compression is a useful improvement.

My only criticism is that sitting at a constant 80mph the lever folds out slightly but due to the position of the lever it’s easy to push back in with the inside of your leg so much better than the old lever which folded out behind your leg. It doesn’t move out much and I’m sure it’s vibes rather than wind. I’ll have a look and see what I can do to improve this.

In conclusion it was money well spent, well made, functional and a big improvement over the original design.

Tighten the bolt on the swivel slightly after adding a bit of blue locktite and it should stay. Did that to mine.
