I have one that has no markings at all except a "T". No RH anything. Please tell me it does not mean Taiwan.

Not Taiwan, Tanganyika.
A special and secret commission by Norton in the mid-70's, ostensibly done to prop up the manufacturing base of the benighted nation, but actually an attempt to establish an undercover base of operations from which they could prosecute the war against the so-called Mau Mau.
Very few were made, and even fewer were marked with a T, which makes yours worth a bundle.

"Test"

It was a factory racing department test head. Extensive but invisible porting, minute valve angle modifications, and skimmed ever so slightly.

The casting was such that each fin is .010 thinner to reduce weight.

Must be run with the "T" stamped camshaft & pistons.

So, nobody has an answer for the OP's question?
That surprises me because folks on this forum seem to take obscure stats on these bikes very seriously.

I asked pretty much the same question a couple of years ago as my rh4 head is stamped with the letters "P" and "B".
No one answered that question either.

My theory is that the factory had some guy on staff whos job it was to just stamp random letters on the head castings........... just for the hell of it.

Well that might very well be true Mark :D , but considering that record keeping was not Norton's strongest attribute back during that period, it is doubtful that anybody now, knows what it might have meant.

Makes as much sense as any of the other drivel previously spouted.

Hi,
Back in the early '80s when I had several Commando heads, I stamped them M1, M2, M3...etc and kept a little book to record the details
of valve size, spring make, gas flow......etc. I still have M1 and M4, but sold M2, M3 & M5 for about £15 each. If anybody has any "M" heads
please could I buy them back at the same £15 each.....Thanks
