Sometimes, simply unplugging and replugging will clean the connections and make things work. The 50+ year old connectors were weak metal to start with.

I don't use bullets anymore. The modern ones are way better but are expensive, require flaky/expensive crimper tools, and take up too much space.

I use WAGO 221 connectors and I completely eliminate the nonsense under the tank. I buy them from Amazon - don't know if you can. This is like a starter kit: https://a.co/d/0hD0GQei I also use these when it makes sense: https://a.co/d/096pE6rX

I cut off all 4 of the (poxy) bullet connectors and joined them into a Wego, ran a 3mm wire back to the battery, headlight and one pair of indicators now work, progress...hooray.

Wago connectors are very good. Even better if you fit "Bootlace ferrules" to the bare ends of the cable to avoid stragglers
