Mk111 Project

From what I can gather from the Atlanticgreen site, the latest Boyer looks to be the one to use. I have an older Boyer on my first MK3 however it is set up a touch retarded to avoid kickbacks on start but I don't feel it has enough total advance. On the new MK3 I'm looking to fit a Micro Digital MK4 as it has more advance in it meaning I can still run a little retarded initial but get more total. If anyone has experience or knowledge on this, any advice is appreciated.

Thanks for the pickup and posting the links LAB.
Just confused, long working hours. Tis the newer Micro Power I was looking at for the new bike. Have you any experience with them? Are they worth the extra cost? Are they reliable? Are any others Pazon etc. worth the extra cost? Does anyone have a recommendation based on experience ? If the new Boyers are so good, why do they still sell the old ones ?

Klaus Kaak tells me reverse leg starting/kickings are entirely the way to go seeing as I have a centerstand. Anyone attempted this ? Not into he-man arm starts.

Well the Lady who messed up on her parking attempt leading to fallover came by today to look at repair costs and they totalled $415. She nicely put $500 in front of me , keep the change. Then we talked books and art and music. Nice.

I used to watch a very light kid start a GoldStar that way. I cannot imagine ever using it myself but he had a very fluid swing. It's been a lot of years but I seem to recall that he prodded it through with his right until he had it where he wanted it then transferred to his left and jumped while swinging his right down. He made it look right. Perhaps someone has posted the technique on YouTube.

Hey since this is the MK 111 thread , I've heard the puller tool for the primary drive sprocket is different. That personage said I need longer bolts. If so what should I get (the 2 bolt sizes ) please.

Thanks L.A.B. Just looked at my puller for previous year commandos and the 2 bolts of the sprocket puller measure out at 3 ". So will pick up the 4" ones for the MK 111 . The crank sticks out more so that's got to be why.

Well all , I (we) are back from much bus travel (10 wks.) through Lovely Mexico . The broken R. Kicker leg has seen a doctor ( cheap consult) and a physiotherapist ( traded in the crutches for a physio session in Zipolite crip center ) but is no where near R. foot -starting up the Norton. I can honestly say It is/was the most difficult thing to deal with in my life physically breaking the upper tibia and r.foot tissue damage kicking the Norton that day late fall. So today whilst the Wife was at work , (and disregarding Dr. and family orders !) , I hobbled outside to start up the Norton. I wore proper cowboy boots and used reverse kicking only with the good left foot. I can assure all now that this method works well facing backwards with bike on sidestand , full choke , ticklings and a fully charged new battery. It's 8 C. out today so used no throttle and she fired up after 3 lazy kicks. Remember this bike was knocked over twice this winter ( left outside and well covered ) by car drivers who decided to do sloppy 3 point turns ,and also abort on sloppy parking attempts. Thank god for neighbours who picked it up and added more flourescent markers. Took a ride down to the beer store for I.P.A. to celebrate and parked it realizing there was alot of rust happening on front disc. The left sidecover has a bumper dent now and the front brake lever needs replacement . It's a yamaha 9ks-12.7 Made in Taiwan if anyone knows the model for lever replacement purposes I would be gratefull , I recall buying the MC assembly mailorder on this Forum advice. Kickstart safe all.

Mainshaft T.S. nut is frozen. How to get off ? Tried penetrant , propane heat to nut , then striking the powerbar with 5 lb. sledge.. Normal RH. thread but on for 45 years. No rust. Should I buy impact power tool ? Can see after loosening all 7 other nuts that Kicker pawl is shot and both 1 st gears show wear but not the others. Thanks. :|

Well I just returned from a bus trip with the wife from Ottawa . Nigel Baker gave me a tip there to check out a 1976 MK 111 in cherry condition for sale , but not listed. The owner let me drive it around the block . It has a Dave Comeau starter some kinda huge British front brake and a sleeved down M.C. It is silver on interstate tank and panels with Tri Spark ign. , like new stock exhaust , powder coated , 27,000 ,LED's ,and I said yes it's for me , so go back in 2 wks. to pick it up. Excited ! :!:

lucky you !! what cha gonna do with the project bike??

I'm in a wierd situation with a Broken BMW sitting outside (Runs fine until hot then dies) BMW Mechanic stumped. Crazy Combat outside broken with battery issues . A MK 111 in 5 boxes. A sorted out MK 111 in Ottawa with 20 days to pickup ,paperwork then drive home. I'll keep the project in boxes for now , but the Beeemer and Crazy Combat are looking like sell candidates now. The decision to buy was based on the whole broken leg scenario which I cannot repeat. :!:

So.. phoned the seller In Ottawa ,the Silver MK111 passed the safety certification with flying colours and he purchased the Ont. Gov't. Seller's package giving previous owner history and Lien status. He also put a fresh Vehicle Validation Sticker on the plate ,good for another year,I have a one way ride up there in 2 days with much cashola for him. My intention is to drive it 390 KMS. home to friends and family arrival to pop a champagne cork. :D

Made it back.4 bottles champagne and friends. The MK111 is bigger and heavier , doesn't rev. as freely and is quieter. Love the Dave Comeau starter ,starts instantly with no labourings whatsoever. I'll be adding the crankcase reed breather as she is weaping from the rocker covers. Have the new Odyssey Bat. to install too. Highly polished and clean. She has to sit in a friend's laneway as it's a long wknd. holiday and I can't get a parking permit. Icing on the cake , as I took a large paper bag full of paperwork into the M.T.O. office and a credit card. :D

You need to do something about the quieter part. Then it will rev quite freely. I have to watch mine, a split second too long and it hits 7k when going thru the gears. No need to go over 6 , the power with stock cam 850 is all below that.
The skinny headgasket along with open exhaust really wakes them up.
Then there is the great torque from 3k on. You just won't get that from a 750.

Glen

Thanks Worntorn , She has a brand new stock crossover bean -can exhaust system . Quiet and polite. Are you saying that fitting my 750 ex. she will be more of what I want ? :!:
