Mk III main seal circlip

As I posted over in the flood bike thread, I've taken a break from that to freshen up the primary drive on the SS clone. Anyone have a tip on removing the main seal retainer circlip? May have been engineered to only be replaced with the case half empty?all clues welcome.
 
Nevermind. managed to pry it out with a very sharp small flatblade and a couple of picks. Main seal replaced.
 
That bent end oughta make it a helluva lot easier to remove. Wonder why the original engineer didn't use a regular flat, inside circlip that can be easily removed and replaced?
 
I replace them with a convetional flat circlip. Seems to work fine.

Dead easy to remove - use an old 8 or 10 thou feeler blade to pry it up and get a small pick tool under it and voila, you have it. Using a old feeler tends not to mark the edge of the recess so much, if at all.
