Hi
Stripping some Triumph race forks for the triple & wonder what they are from? The oil seal is a top hat type & there are no washers or circlip? The forks are not grooved for them. Mind you they didnt want to come out! Just wondered what model they are. I'm fitting Richard Darbys damper rods to them.
Thanks Chris

"Race forks"?
If you mean with the usual Triumph disc fork sliders then they didn't have the oil seal retainer circlip groove before 1980.

Hi Chris,
I've currently got a pair of the Triumph disc type forks in bits at the moment & have been wondering about the Richard Darby dampers. Would you mind me asking how much, & does any part of the fork require modifying to fit them? Also, LAB is correct, there is no circlip groove.

Martyn.

Dunno the cost these days Martyn but I can say they’re worth whatever he’s charging! Transformed the front end of bikes I’ve fitted them to.

That's what I've heard Nigel. I guess whatever the price it will be less than I've handed over to Maxton on quite a few occasions, but as they're for the OIF A65 I'm building I don't want to get too spendy, cos I may not like the thing when it's finished.

Hi Lab
Thank you I can only find parts lists showing the circlip & washers or just the washers.
!
Martyn I brought a couple of pairs £140. You use your old damper nut washer etc ie top of the damper rod items.

Pre-'78 fork sliders had conventional rigid (97-4001) fork seals (can be fitted to later forks) not retained by circlips therefore, the sliders have no circlip grooves.

1978 - '79 had floating 'LeakProof' seals with press-fit retainers that had to be fitted with a space between the retainer and seal (seal and retainer were sold together as 97-7010 and both parts can be fitted to earlier forks).

1980 and later sliders had the same LeakProof seals but with sliding-fit retainers secured by circlips (presumably due to owners/mechanics pounding the tight-fitting washers down against the LeakProof seals causing them to leak!
Seal, retainer and circlip then became available separately.

Hi Martyn
I think my original parts are Phil Picks kit? Photo of Richards kit.

Phil had issues. Last time I spoke to him was a couple of years after he had stopped responding & shut up shop. He sounded well & distanced himself from everything. He was working at a college with I.t & said it was good. Hopefully he is still good but that was many years ago. Top triple man.

Yes I know he had is ups and downs, he was working at the college when I dealt with him last, but that was perhaps 12 years ago now (scary). Just wondered if he was still around.

Not heard anything different Nige. Alan Walsh might know but I've not read anything. Lots of people knew Phil & a select few kept in contact. It would be nice to know he is well? Might be worth posting on triple on Facebook.
Richards just told me what bits to fit to his dampers. His bottom nuts are majorly different.
