Hi,

I am about to change the pilot jet in my Mikuni 36mm VU carb as the bike is running rich. I have turned the air screw out about 2 turns from the fully closed position and the condition does not change; this is up to about quater throttle. I have various jets in the kit that was supplied with the carb but I am unsure what the best way is to change them. Does the floatbowl have a gasket like the Amals? Can anyone help?

Thanks again,

Neil

Neil:

Yeah, there's a float bowl gasket, but its reusable if the carb's not terribly old. For reference, look at the parts diagram on the Sudco site. http://sudco.com/catalog105/049-055.pdf

When I was tuning my mik, I was able to change jets with the carb on the bike - removed the float bowl, loosen the spigot clamp and rotate the carb 90 degrees to access the bottom.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Dr_Hiller, I replaced the jet for the slightly smaller one in the kit (I don't know the exact size off hand, but the new one is around 0.2mm smaller) The idle is ok but still not perfect. I will set it up with the colourtune but I am still unsure regarding the jets for the other stages of the throttle range.

Has anyone set up a Commando 850 with a 36mm Mikuni and know the best size jets/ tuning config to use?

Thanks again,

Neil
