Well done!

That is indeed a fair price on both sides. For sure you can't restore one for that amount, so the buyer is miles (and months) ahead.

Considering what a new bike cost, I would say $8500 not expensive at all to own a well sorted out classic. The price of Nortons may go up as more well restored examples such as this one surface, one thing for sure, it will be the bike to own to stand out in a sea of Harleys and clones.

Yes if you do an advanced eBay search and only look at completed auctions for Commandos 1968-1976 you will find that just recently the bikes that got up near the 7000 level never made their reserves and and those of us who restore these machines all know that 10,000 is about the minimum out the door price for a bike like this and this one would have been 12,500 or so out of my shop. We did the best we could do given the market it is not a good time for those of us that sell but I just bought a complete but apart 500 74 Triumph for 1000.00 so good for buying.

Yes, Commando prices have fallen. Before the crash that bike would have brought $10K on ebay and probably more at the Vegas auction.

Good time to buy and hold, bad time to be selling.

Very nice machine at that price.
You all can be very proud someone will enjoy the fruits of your labour of love.
You can't finish one with engine rebuilding included for that price.
If the Michigan NOC is happy w/ the results that's what matters most.
Thank you for sharing the process with the forum.
I've enjoyed traveling along the journey w/ you all.
Marshal

Yes, it definitely was a good deal for the buyer. He's another happy Norton owner now.

Thanks for that Dave,
Bringing this all to a close and handing over the check to these folks was a fine feeling. Thanks to all on the board who came to help our project. We heard from the new owner, “in Washington State” seems he took the bike to a show and won best of show with it. He seemed proud and happy. We are proud and happy too. Thanks to the sponsors, workers, past owners, and readers of this thread. Greg

One of the most fun & worthwhile projects I've ever had the honor to be associated with.
