We have been talking about an upgraded sprag system for Mark III's for some time. We have finally finished our first 5 prototypes, and they are in testing

Kit will include 4 components: Crank Sprocket, Sprag Gear, Needle Bearing for Sprag Gear, and Sprag.

We analyzed failed components. We have upgraded the material and heat treat process on both the Sprocket and the Gear. We will also be supplying a sprag that we changed to in the CNW Electric Starter. We found that the 18 tooth sprags supplied by most vendors have significant quality problems

First production run should be available in about 90 to 120 days.

I will have some additional parts back from finishing in Monday, and will post some pictures

If you are interested in this upgrade, please let Matt know at CNW so we can plan a quantity on the first run

Hi
Finally, the good news, which we have been waiting for a couple of years now. Looking forward to the test results and what the price the will be of course.
But with the experience I and many others have with the products from CNW, this will be good.

This is another part where it’s a shame Matt doesn’t branch out as cTw... there are a lot of electric start Triumph T140s out their with plasticine Sprag clutches !

Good news. Will this be a plug and play kit to beef up the Mk 3 starter? Too early to hint at predicted cost?
Kit will be plug and play. We have scanned and copied the gear and sprocket, we changed the material and heat treat process to take care of an issue we believe contributes to the failure of the components.

Several question have been asked about price. We are shooting to have the price to be what you would pay for these components from any reliable vendor( target price for the kit, all components in the upgrade) should be somewhere around US$ 350.00. On top of this, we are considering a 5 year limited warranty. Limited to replacement of the gear or sprocket from damage to the sprag engagement areas. We cannot warranty the sprag, as we do not make the component. If the sprag fails, you would be able to buy a new sprag and install in the original components. But if you break a primary chain and trash the sprocket, that would not be covered, or similarily, if you don't tighten a bolt in the primary and it come loose and trashes the sprag gear teeth, again not covered. I am putting this for your comments as consumers

Thanks G81. Will be good to see the pics and hear the diagnosis of exactly where the shortcomings in the original components are, eg design or materials. It's starting to sound like materials. Either way, a CNW upgrade has got to be a good thing.
