So it got 70lb lighter going to unit construction
But also lost a few HP due to a badly breathing head, wonder how it would have gone with the DBD34 HP and the B50 weight.

Stan Millard used to cut and weld B50 heads and got most of the loss back and his flatracker flew.

In the Frank Melling Video , He stated there is a 54HP version of this engine .

In reality , How fast does it need to be ? If you listen to the Melling video , he says they’re getting 90 horse out of it.

This is true, you wouldn't buy this bike if the desire was to go fast.
With 45 bhp it should be fast enough for modern traffic and hopefully smooth enough to run at freeway/Interstate/ motorway speeds when needed.

Some info from a dutch website.
The BSA 650 engine is a reincarnation of the Rotax developed engine that was used first in the 1992 Aprilia Pegaso 650 (single cam, 5 valves), later in the BMW F650 (double cam, 4 valves).
The F650 RR models used by BMW in Dakar rallies late nineties were boosted from 652 to 675 cc, claiming 75 hp.
The new Gold Star was designed by UK company Redline Studios.
Ricardo developed the chassis.
The engine, same 652 cc, is under license from Rotax, in a redevelopment done jointly with University of Graz, Austria.
Cylinder head was reworked to improve emission figures , inlet tract tilted more horizontal.

Is the new Beezer going to be made in Birmingham?
I sincerely hope to see (and maybe ride) one. I wonder what the dealer network will be - Triumph or RE dealers?

I just hope they are made in a factory where the quality control is excellent.
If that happens, the Brand will succeed.
For 99% of customers, it doesn't really matter if the Factory is in Birmingham or Brazil. Performance is also a minor concern for this type of bike.
Most importantly, it needs to run and run like the Triumph stuff tends to. RE also getting some very good reports on the new Indian made Interceptors.
If the reports are correct, these new Indian RE Interceptors are a lot easier to live with than the originals were.

I have a 2019 RE Interceptor and it works great just like my Norton Commando.

Promised March, then May, then June. Still no word of price or dealers or delivery. What is going on?

I guessed that engine could be involved back on page 1

Looks like they are planning a large capacity single, if they buy the engine in then they could use Rotax engines, they did a 652cc single for BMW and must have updated versions on paper. This would allow them to shorten the development time.

Based on the video it's a pity the engine sounds like a bucket of nails.

engine sounds like my 1969 z50 minitrail it needs throat opened up
I have one also, (it just occurred to me it shares the same year, 69, as my Fastback !) it didn't get started last year, I rolled it into the main exam room last weekend, poured some
fresh gas in it and fired up on 2nd or 3rd kick and it ran like a Singer sewing machine. Good year, good number ;)
Arguably, one of the best small air-cooled engines, IMHO, the 50 cc Honda. Bullet proof design. And no better mini bike for a new (little) rider to learn on.
It does sound as though the BSA revs a bit faster though !

Very nice Alan, A few years back, I purchased 2 69's, yellow, blue. Neither had ran for years, the blue
one in better condition, I got it running in short order. sold the yellow one (doubling my my money) Very regrettable mistake....no tougher product was ever made. IMHO.
