Hello all,

I just got a 71 Commando Friday and have been having fun going over it. There are some things that need attention. First, the kickstart (which I am having a difficult a time getting used to) will crash into the silencer. There's a terrible welding job between the pipe and the muffler. The worst part, the rubber bushings to mount the muffler appears to be JB Welded to the Z-plate. And there are no muffler mounts. So, the right side muffler is being suspended by a little bit of ground wire but still is in the way of the kickstart.

I ordered the appropriate mounting plates and bushings. I would like, however, to scrap the whole exhaust and get something without shoddy welding.

Has anyone had any experience with the Mac 2-1 exhaust system? Or is the stock type system from someplace like Commando Specialties recommended?

Thanks for all your help in advance!

Hi Gary,

The MAC 2 into 1's are a decent system for the price but in my opinion they do look cheap and the pipes will blue the first time you start, I'd spend the extra and get a good quality stock exhaust system.

Im in the same boat. There is a wide array of pipes and silencers but
was hoping to go with the 2-1 to lose some weight and complexity.
Is there not a 2-1 system of quality out there?
There also is the problem of cracking as the engine moves a lot.
Somewhere here is a thread on attaching the exhaust to the cradle.

While pondering 2-1, each exhaust side weight between 9-10 lbs, not counting the hanger hardware. Be aware fabbing up your own how close it must be to frame so wheel can't strike it on full compression.
