Hi Lads,

Great day for a spin in Dublin, bank holiday Monday, blue skys.

Decided to go to a place called Laragh via 'The Gap' a mountain road, 22 miles lots of bends, bumps & sheep!

The Commando was running great, two up & it handled itself very well, when I got to Laragh noticed some oil on the RH side panel, hmmm on closer inspection I had lost both nuts off the front RH rocker cover, the cover was still there, I was amazed at this considering some of the bumps I'd hit on the way there.

I had my bag of tools & a few bits but no spare nuts! but I did have some wire & cable ties, so I managed to secure the cover & got home with all my remaining bits intact :D

So two things:

1. If anybody is going for a spin around 'The Gap' & finds some domed 1/4" nuts I'd appreciate them back

2. Any good suppliers of stainless nuts for the rocker covers?

Roll on the summer :D

Hehe, had so much of that flavor of ride adventures, my lesion is to carry various heat resistant wire lenths, but I never know which flavor nuts to bring along.
Take care on them polished cobble stone sections and roundabouts.

Thinking a set of Lansdowne dampers would have stopped the bike from Knocking and banging. ..nuts , bolts ,carbs whats next to be shaken off :?:

A "nut and bolt check" is something I try to do after any mechanical work is finished and before I take vehicles out. I can't say however that typically I'd check valve cover nuts!

Hi Hotbot,

I think you would enjoy Ireland, not many deers to avoid but plenty of sheep & cows(cattle) :D

Cobblestones are mainly in the city, absolutely deathly when wet, which is most of the time

As long as bits don't start falling off me I don't mind

Hi,

Yes, same routine as me, I did my checks the night before & I did check the valve cover nuts!! My mistake was when I replaced them I did not use any thread lock :( Lesson learnt won't happen again!

These nuts should not be overtightened or the covers will slightly warp then leak oily stuff out forever ,but that section of over the pond is on my travel list.

Hi,

Thanks for the tip.

Laragh in Glendalough is a well know biker stop off, few places to eat & a pub, what more would you want :D You could easily spend a day pottering around the Wicklow mountains, if you can get a good day the views are fantastic

Hopefully this link will work on Google maps to give you an idea of where it is from Dublin: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source= ... =UTF8&z=10
