Ok maybe this should be retitled "a cautionary tale". So I had laid my Commando up for a few months due to the arrival of my new son. I was able to fit a new primary chain and remedy a drip from the gearbox but had not been able to get out and ride. Finally I got out and the first few trips went great, no leaks from the primary and no smoke inducing drips from the gearbox onto the pipes. Then one day it took twenty or so kicks to start (usually one) and backfired out the left pipe every ten kicks or so. The next day the left side ran stone cold. In a panic I synched the carbs, gave them a good clean, checked the compression and checked for healthy spark, all to no avail. Then I started to remove the inlet valve covers to check the valve clearances when I noticed that the left side plug wire had been sawn almost in two by slight contact with the braided steel oil lines going into the head  . So I was relieved and felt stupid. I am always wrapping fuel line etc. around areas that I think might chafe but the plug wire never concerned me. So a cheap fix and a relief. I am sure that it was not the greatest thing for the PAZON but we will find out one way or another when the new plug wires arrive from OldBritts.
