Manufacturers are starting to fit LED headlamps on some new bike models... with some of the talk on the forum on alternator replacement, I wonder if replacing the headlamp with LED may not be a more feasible option (and useful upgrade to boot). Would save lots of amps while providing a brighter burn I think...

Are there any aftermarket kits providing LED headlamps? Positive ground obviously an issue for some of us...

There was some talk about this previously, I seem to remember Pelican talking about it, but that's just from memory which is completely unreliable.

I looked into that recently and the cheaper of the two lights available was $300, got mixed reviews, and was negative ground only....pulled 35W on low beam IIRC. My sense after some web surfing was that much better and cheaper LED headlights will be available in a year or two. Harley does sell a kit fWIW, but looks like it is the $300 trucklite unit

yeah, harley started offering them as an option this year, they are made by jwspeaker corp. They only cost around $580 haha... people that have them love them from what i read on the hdforums

The positive / negative earth thing is really not an issue, if you fit a relay for you headlamp you can wire it as needed, positive or negative.

That's not true for almost all the tail lamp setups I've seen... they have internal grounds on them that will ground to frame when installed.

You could design them differently I'm sure...

Hobot, that customdynamics one looks interesting - but does it use less power to make it worth while? It is 12 volt, 4.5 Amps, that's roughly 54 watts high beam, and 2.5 Amps low beam is around 30 Watts

looks exactly the same as the trucklite

Thanks for the wattage figuring, surprisingly high for an LED cluster. Cage headlights should have a different beam pattern/spread than a cycle, so don't know if that much is same or different in the look a like lights. The ads all claim better light than HID but I don't know, yet. The hi beam HID's often use a bulb mover or shield as the on time is too long for normal on/off hi beam use. I first saw LED head lights in the J&P Harley catalog, so keep searching may find a solution that cost effective.
