I was wondering if anyone has ever replaced the kick start stops in the gearbox inner cover the actual stop is quite worn. It looks like they are riveted in but I cant find a part number for them anywhere. Any advice would be appreciated. Thx Drummer 99

I just had the same problem and had to replace kickstart pawl stop plate.

I found putting the rivet back in to be tricky, especially if you don't have access to rivet gun. Not much room for a bucking block. I ended up making a little assembly that secured the rivet head in place and could be set on the anvil of my vise.

Also, I recommend putting a thin layer of metal beneath the pawl plate to raise it up a tad. There is not much depth of contact between the pawl and the plate. That becomes even less if you add shims to reduce lay shaft end play.

Thanks for the insight Where did you source the stop plates and rivets I have one reply that Andover Norton Spares them?

They normally come as part of the inner cover assembly and not commonly stocked separately. I bought them directly from Andover Norton, who had them in stock 6 weeks ago. My usual stateside suppliers did not stock them.

Hi L.A.B.,
How were you able to find these parts on AN website? I was unable to see them in any of the diagrams on the website and they don't appear in my parts book.

you can search with the word 'pawl' and 'stop plate'. they will come up.

As NickZ says the pawls/rivets were not available at the time so they don't appear on diagrams as separate items (maybe AN will include them one day?) and a 'word' search can often find what you are looking for.

Normal or replace? The problem that I'm having is that every third stab on the kick starter results in a skip-clunk-catch. I've purchased a new layshaft 1st gear, pawl and spring for the pawl. However, the old first gear does not look that worn. Gearshifting was watch like, smooth, quiet and easy. Then upon further inspection I noticed the peening on the stop pins looks bad, but I don't know. I appreciate opinions on the attached photos.

I would say they look normal so nothing to worry about if the plates aren't loose.
