This has surely been up here before, have searched, but I´m not the best friend with the search function, probably my fault.... :? So gearbox inner cover, I have some bad threads and I don´t like that it´s so cramped in there to get to the nuts, well a couple of them anyway. Is there some kind of disadvantage to use bolts instead, with an Allen head? There are bolts that have larger heads than the usual ones, should be fine, yes?

Tube spanners or box spanners as some call them work great in tight places like the inner case nuts or a socket machined down also works great.

Well I guess I´ll just have to try again.... :D I know about the tools and all that, but what I was wondering; is it bad for some reason to put bolts in that hold the gearbox inner cover instead of the studs and nuts? I just think it seems a lot easier, that´s all.

With bolts into alloy you could wear out the threads, less likely with studs and nuts.

Yes, I agree, but I´m thinking helicoil, and that one doesn´t (hopefully) have to take it apart that often....
