I noticed what I thought was a cut from a road hazard, upon closer inspection, I see many of them, and then the delam perpendicular to the tread, looks like the tread rubber seem to me. 4,000 miles on a 63hp vintage bike, mfg date of '09

Re: Keep an eye on the Avon RoadRunners tread seperation

Not good, I have just put a set on my bike and so far have been very happy with them, I have done just over 2,000 miles with them, I will keep a close eye on them, could be just a one off problem but take your bike to the place you brought them you never know they might replace it, I had a K81 that was new and I had about 10 flats with it in a month the tyrer place couldn't work it out as he couldn't see no problems with the tyre, he ended up replacing it free of charge and I never had anymore troubles, they found out later the the tyre had a small split inside but could only see it when the tyre was streched it was causing it to pinch the cube.

Yup, I have had three other sets, no issues.

O.K., now you got me worried seeing as I just installed two AM 26 rubbers on Crazy Combat ,0 miles . They went on soft n' easy. Just ran out with my Multi-functions camping lantern and read the numbers. 42837-1 and 8(5009). Grabbed a beer to de-stress.

Torontonian, I'm more worried about what kind of beer you drink, than I am about those tires. Ha

Re: Keep an eye on the Avon RoadRunners tread seperation

I believe that AM26s' are RoadRIDERS and RoadRunners are AM20 and AM21.....

Especially if you can find Urquell on tap. I remember there were a few bars in Berlin...noch 'ne Halbe, bitte.

I'd telephone, get a real warranty person on the line, then send those pics to them at Cooper Tire, the owners of Avon, and ask them to replace the tire.

WOW, That's not good. I went back to Avons after I had a Dunlop do that on the first ride. It didn't even have the nubs worn off. I haven't bought another Dunlop since because the Dunlop tire rep told me to take a hike. Hope they cover it. Jim

I've had one on my Commando for awhile and no trouble so far, also put a set on my DR650SM recently and like them a lot. Before I bought them I looked at the reviews at MCsuperstore and there were a few similar stories but most reviews were highly positive, am hoping they just had a bad batch or two a few years back, will keep a close eye on mine. Interestingly I just read that Roadriders have nearly perfect balance from the factory and that is why they don't have a light spot marked, that jibes with my experience, only had to balance for the valve stem on three wheels. There are some reviews at http://www.motorcycle-superstore.co...UCT-REVIEW/Avon-AM26-Roadrider-Rear-Tire.aspx and http://www.motorcycle-superstore.co...CT-REVIEW/Avon-AM26-Roadrider-Front-Tire.aspx

My only issue with Roadriders is they wear out fast. Back ones lucky to get 3,000 miles.

German beer - Konigsbacher from Coblenz. Can't find it in the US and have had one since '76. :(
Plenty of good micro brews here though.

I have Roadriders on my bikes and have had no problems, but I have seen a thread on the UK Moto Guzzi forum where the owner has had the same issues as you when using Roadriders.

He had a poor response from Avon, who would only allow him to return the failed tyre via the original supplier, which was difficult as they were no longer in business. To cut a long story short, they were not very helpful apparently.

Things may be different for you, let's hope so.

Are we talking about these cracks? Mine are same date code but the rear is flatted and now UK illegal in the centre. Was considering going back to BT45's but the front has years left in it and unsure about compatibility. Just completed a 185 mile run to London and Brighton for the ACE Burnup and on the way back noticed it was a bit wobbly trying to stay with a mate on an ancient ('94) Blade. Found 20 psi in the rear and having refitted the centre stand (trying to diganose a rattle) found a huge flatspot right where my wheel weights are. Now, the bike was off the road for 15 months while I was out of commission but it was on the stand not the wheels so I'd expect the Iso rubbers to have suffered. It's a 1/8" low spot and was definitely not like that last time I looked. It's only in a 6" arc and I've not been locking up the rear, as if it could! The rim is round at that point and the tyre evenly seated all round. My cracks don't look so bad though the front is noticeable under closeup......... 5600 miles BTW so the rears done ok.

Don’t know what pat of the globe you are from, but here in the UK you can return a tyre to any tyre distributor, ask for a fault form, and the company will have to abide by an independent British Tyre Manufacturers’ Association.
You might get some money back according to amount of wear.

Perhaps there is something similar going on in your country :?:

I have those on the 650ss but only 2000 miles, will look closely.
When I do stoop to beer drinking, I remind myself that I am a poser Vincent rider so it has to be imported stuff like Sleemans or such, only small sips with the pinky finger extended.

haha - Well we want to know do you have a pet Tiger or some other big cat

Dude, at least you ride the things and don't just talk about it how fantastic you and your Norton are on some internet forum on a daily basis
