K & N AIR FILTERS

Does anyone have experience of the thinner filter Colorado Norton use, and/or the type model no.
I am pretty pushed for room back there and would benefit if it is efficient enough. I assume they are fitting it to a 36mm Mikuni.

K&N air filters

Really don't like reopening this up but it seems everybody is correct to some degree in their assessments, however, we have used K&N's exclusively for the last 30 some years and have had few if any issues. Granted, we do not have a fleet of diesel powered gravel hauling behemoths, and are on pavement most of the time and not in the backwoods in sand and gravel, however, we have never had any sign of foreign substance infiltration.
The "air-box" theme is accurate, the bigger the better, we used large round offset inlet filters on Del'Ortos on the bevel drives with great success. I do have some flow info. on bevel drive Ducks if anyone is interested

The FRAM filter to use with stock 71 air cleaner is CF146. It is a round filter but curves just fine.

found this on a search, need to replace the fram air filter on my bike....FWIW CF146 does not come up on the Fram site, looks like the correct part is CA146 as far as I can tell, my Fram caught fire so am going to try an alternative but started another thread for that, might just have been a fluke ( I hope)

This is another one of those religion, politics, oil & tires discussions.

All positive results from all others aside, what the intake wants most is clean, free air in the largest available quantities. Then, it is up to the tuner to properly meter and moderate the fuel and air mixture according to the air intake configuration he is dealing with.

I just can't see putting clip-on screens on bellmouth velocity stacks, that only disrupts the air at the most critical point (the tuned, curved entry mouth). What you want to do is surround the opening with a filtered-inlet enclosure so that the air immediately surrounding the opening of the intake is totally free to flow in a smooth manner. This is the description of an airbox.

Also, when you employ a standard airbox/filter arrangement, the filtering media surface area is typically many multiples of individual filters, so it takes longer to cause ill effects from clogging.

P.S. Add my name to the "likes dual-mouth K&N filters" list. They are essentially a smallish airbox.

Old thread I know, and not quite the on the same path as the latest question.... But I do not get why people put those stupid screens in the bellmouth of a velocity stack (people do it on the front of turbos as well). Like you said it is a bad place for flow but on top of that the round section the wire is made from has a really bad drag coefficient making it even worse. The stock setup is pretty close to the mark in terms of power and filtration, it may be possible to make it better by having bellmouths extending into the airbox

KN filters simply dont work anywhere near as well paper element OE parts, or oiled foam elements. Engines will wear out faster if KN type filters are used, and the best possible choice for machines used on the road is a paper element, or regularly serviced foam filter, within a properly designed air box.
