It goes without saying that we all have to put up with idiot drivers. Another ride, another idiot. I always try to tell myself that if I go out, I'm probably going to have somebody piss me off, and I just get over it. It's going to happen. But, I still find after 41 years of riding, that some days, I can't accept the inevitable. People piss me off! Today was a beautiful day here in Nebraska, 64 degrees and sunny, been like this most of the week. Snuck out for a short ride on the MKIII this afternoon - supposed to be working. Everything was so nice, bike just humming along, all I had to do was just get back home, right? I'm cresting a hill on a four lane road on the south edge of town. Going to turn right at the next light. Probably about 50-75 yards ahead. I'm going about 50, starting to slow up at bit. Some obnoxious shite is riding my ass in a dark blue CRV. She's following so close, I want to signal plenty early. As soon as my hand goes up, she floors it, flies around me, almost clips me cutting back in ahead of me, so the idiot can run the light. No way was the fact that I was in her way, was she going to be delayed for another 10 seconds, so we both could safely do a right turn. Some days, I just shrug my shoulders with a "meh", but it sure can spoil the end of a beautiful ride. Does the good cancel out the bad? Most days, but today wasn't one of them. Came home in a pissed off mood. But, I made it home in once piece, so it ain't all bad. I feel better now!

I can relate...down here in Florida, most cagers are a-holes. Rarely go on a ride w/o some jerk doing something stupid to try and shave a second or two off their travel time...most of the time ending up looking at them face-to-face at the next red light.....sheeesh!

My remedy....get home...take a deep breath and take in the view of my gorgeous machine...relax....have a beer.

Commuteing for a year on the Bonneville , the average was once a week ' emergency avoidance action ' .

The phyche of Barges and Nortons are worlds apart , elevated above all that on the Commando , except in the worst capitalist areas . ( National Voters )

A bird walked into Mc donalds and worked for two days before they clicked she didnt , she'd picked up a uniform at the Op Shop , and wanteed to pass the time
being usefull .
One of the Ex Cop Kawasakis and Police Overalls might improve the situation .

A mechanic bloke had a Ex Cop Ford , Black , white roof . Said put on a peaked hat , and the traffic cleared like the Red Sea for Moses , going to work. 8)

I'm curious, Matt...are you and our dear friend, Hobot, somehow related???

I would think school mates at the very least. Or long lost siblings. Or they were both abducted by the same alien

Whatever one it is we are all better for knowing them.

I talked to him on the phone about a month ago, totally different conversation. It is really obvious that typing is way too slow to convey the whole message as intended. Instead we get, what is at times humorous and enlightening tidbits. I find typing my message in the way I am thinking it is difficult at times myself.

Not quite sure what you meant by the "except in the worst capitalist areas" can you explain this better---good or bad?

I thought he explained it with (National Voters), but I don't know what that means either.

National Voters will be people who vote for the National party - the more right wing of the two major political parties in NZ; the other major party is the Labour party, which as its name implies was borne out of the working class union movement in the 1930s or so.

I'm not quite sure of any correlation between political parties and motorbikes; - except that I have read that the leader of the Labour party who has just resigned after a decisive loss to National at the polls apparently is an ex Commando owner. At the time that he was my tutor in political studies in the 1970s he rode a Bonneville. Without disclosing my own political leanings I will say that I never voted for him, if only as a direct protest against the marks that he awarded me for the essays that I wrote in that subject. Maybe Matt did better in that, or attended a protest or two...

Yes Sir'ee Bob, Matt is a close relative but so are anyone who is still stupid enough to plant their butt in a saddle be it 4 legged or two tryed kind, you are not ever fully in control of your life, period end to story throw in the towel and wrap it up. I have PTSD to point I jerk up with a scream drifting off to sleep when one of my close calls or crashes pops up or squeal out loud reviewing what could happen before I suit up. There is no real solution but not ride as some of us will meet our end on a motorcycle. Wonder why skulls and bones so common a motif?
Fate is the Hunter, savor and fear rides like it could be your last.

I think the bestappraoch is ' Ones Undivided attention ' on the task at hand .
Trackside , theyed talk of %ages of concentration or of ' the limit ' . The Idea being that at 6 or 8 10ths , you leave the rest on ' subconcious ' not ' switched off '

Williams and a few other drivers / riders , through practise / familiarity / obsesition ? and dedication could succesfully ride at past the limit of unpractised
or less dedicated types . To me , the trap is letting your mind be less than fully engaged in the trip , rideing . Daydreamings not realy ' keeping focused ' ,
Though theres a few situations where ' a great hand from beyond ' has ensured things didnt proceed acording to the laws of physics . ( SPLATT ) it was
through inattention that the situations developed. The mind wandering onto other things , or stupidly takeing a situation for granted .
Generally a ride in a calculateing appraiseing manner , the joy of a race track , is that theres a lot less extraeneous influances to take account off.
( Much like rideing out in the sticks , but back up available if you muck it up , rather than Vultures ) Never excedding a comfortable impact speed with the unseen, time / distance wise holds weight . A lot of people DONT look a long ways ahead , to see whats happening way up the chain reaction line,
so I dont like following other riders , unless theyre quick smooth and dont like damadgeing machineary . Even then , on a road unknown to you
you tent to have to anchor up often , unless youve unbound faith in the leader .
Race track protocol says drive your own track , trailing leads you off into someone elses space , and you loose mastery .Commando Id developed
' place youreself to dominate the situation / traffic 'stratagey. and seldom had bother. But cant recall running it real hard, had more ooph than required.

With stock cam back in it was relaxing to ride , with the 2S it required youre full attention .

Sounds like Goff ? with the bonneville & Commando , Chris ? . If he had let that out , he would have gained endless credibility and won the election . :D Id thought he was a hippie who lost his credibility getting a hair cut
& a suit .

Theres a deep & mysterious occurance in the the past , regarding unobtanium & the need to know , which for the meanwhile will have to pass over lesser mortals . :D :P

The National party generally were rugby types , so a few beers , or a flea in the ear from the missus , and they can be a bit un predictable . Unfortunately the ' workers representitives ' , 'Labour ' , took to the bottle too
Chardoney , were told , and became pinko lefty liberals . I tried to vote once , though ' wasnt to sure ' about any of the candidates ,As Id just moved to the area , was told I wasnt eligable , as I hadnt lived there long enough . Such are the best efforts of determined men thwarted . :P Hasnt really been anyone worth voteing for since this bloke was bumped of anyway ,
Just another bad driver rant, but....

But memories are falible & time dims , so the latter lot , a pack of placard waveing lefties , took all the credid , and had not the nous or integredy of the man, yet .

Seeing were getting ' a bit off ' Wharfs , The bloke who reground the hard chromed swing arm pin , said he'd been a ships engineer . " Got a Manx Norton , dismantled rebuilt and overhauled it on the trip to NZ,
Put his newly completed pride & joy on the wharf , and went to the pub . Came back & its gone. someone pointed out a stream of oil in the water . Fished it out , Stripped it all and did the lot again on the trip to England .
we ll digress onto certain devious types blowing up ships there , next . and Whales .The Bloke involved in the Deep & Mysterious project some lad fell across , said high level scientific concern at that time , was that
after all the pollution from WW II , and continueing conflicts , it was possible a microscopic film of oil would cover sufficent ocean to cause the erradication of PLANKTON , photosythesis and the like , AND THEN
the whales'd be gone , AND all the rest in the old briney .Politics  here in Aus. 30 years ago , LEAD anti whaleing LEGISLATION . seems they just weep & gnash theyre teeth over publictity polls ,
and the MEDIA run the country Via manipulation of the masses .

SO getting back on the subject . The drivers have probly been watching the TV shows & Movies so they think theyre driveings ' Normal ' .

Gooday Matt,

Piggy and the All Blacks were the only ones you could ever vote for. We went to "Le Club Muruoa" to see the 3 headed dolphins. Test nuclear weapons in France ?. Oh no no no, It is far too dangerous. We must do it in your backyard (with French accent).

Good drivers, bad drivers, they all want to kill you at some point. Its a contest we can never win. Someone said:-

"When I am riding my bike, I am glad to be alive. When I stop riding my bike, I am glad to be alive.

Keep working on the skill levels, stay alive.

There's no excuse, you can't blame anyone else when you ride. You know the risks involved. They are out to kill you. If you can't accept this - don't ride.

BTW, was it Muldoon who made that remark about those that leave there for here lower the IQ of both countries?

Ninja upgrades help restore the balance between the have nots, and are liable for further penalty, crossing state main high inter sections can lead to out-standing aviodance's,with daily swipes being delivered.
