Glen you not a quite a third of the way there (65000) .... let us know then .... FE, I run a 21T counter shaft sprocket so yup @ 5000 fast enough , ( if such a thing , eh) .... it pulls good and hard in 2nd, 3rd and 4th as well .... I love this bike for what I use it for .... speed and long rides, well for me, any way , to quote my daughter as a teen " it so yesterday" .... and that what I like 'bout it !!! .... so day rides it is and the Mik works very well for me .... but we all been through this topic many times before .... eh

I will, however at 20k there is zero visible wear on slide or body.
Even my chrome slide Mikuni VMs on the other bike are showing tiny bit of slide wear now, and those are at a lower mileage.
So I don't see 65000 as a problem for the Premieres.
I will replace the brass at some point, maybe at 40k.
Mikunis also work best if the brass is replaced once in a long while.

Seems to me if Japanese parts work so well for people, may be they should switch the whole bike to a Japanese make? ;-)

I believe the Premieres are capable of very high mileage without a problem.
Mine were installed 20,000 miles ago and slides look as new.

They weren't one of the sets of Premiers that had different size jets in the two carbs were they? Or full of swarf?

Gee, I really miss my top end. Irrelevant. I don't understand why I have to rev the nuts off my Commando because some people think I should.

No they weren't any of the above.
I bought them from Jerry Doe all configured as ordered. Bolted them on, set the air and idle and they have been perfection ever since.

Toro ... check out CNW site and others, lots of parts to upgrade/fix our Brit bikes from Japan on most of them ( what brand plugs in your Commando) ... personally I prefer the Twins from Italy .... not lacking in “character” which most say Norton’s have in spades .... only the Italians seem to be/have more of everything we desire in our Commandos , plus they easy to work on as well .... as long as not too new and loaded with the dreaded black boxes , that applies to most newer bikes though and seems to be selling feature for younger buyers ....

Just curious, did you have a Commando back in the day when you were young?

I remember when GD had those carbs for sale .... if the Mikuni wasn’t so good , I would have seriously tried a set ...!

Sure did. Went everywhere on it and, in the end, it wass the only bike I regretted selling. Hence, 13 years ago I replaced all the rest with another Commando. I use it now like I used it then. For everything. Well set up, they are one of the most pleasant and rider friendly bikes you can own. I did say "well set up" because, I dare to say, many are not even close, from what I have seen.

I think it could make a great Bond flick title-

" The Man With No Top End"

He commits dastardly crimes then escapes leisurely yet promptly on an old motorcycle which never exceeds a sensible and safe, relatively low RPM....

Horses for courses
It all depends on what you want from your bike
This road has been traveled many times

Well, you haven't been following the game apparently. Some on here are obsessed by the Norton's top end power and absolutely must use it at every opportunity. Not my scene.

Quite. Some are, and twin Amals or twin big FCRs etc are perfect for them.

Some aren’t, and single Miks are perfect for them.

Different horses for different courses.

Simple as that.

Nobody called Mikuni an Anal. This string started with picking a fight. At least we’re passionate.

Actually this thread started because we've all been told how wonderful the new Anal Premiers are and yet, here we are with multiple posts telling how to fix the issues with them, at least as long as the threads proclaiming the problems with the original pot metal junk. I mean if people want to flagellate themselves working with these things instead of riding their Nortons, then go ahead. Just don't say how wonderful these things are after sixty odd years of trying to get the makers to fix the issues. All the synchronising etcetera all for a couple of horsepower where you need it least. As a wise man was once heard to say "One horsepower in the midrange is worth three in the top end".

I hear you, but maybe stop using Anal. It’s not anal for those of us that have solved the materials issues of the concentric and have a satisfactory result that is lasting. Over the years I tried single and dual Mikuni VM set up. The unsatisfactory issue is the fit. I like where the original ignition key bracket is and like the ham can air filter box with K&N full-size filter.
