Well, none really. But then, it was on the bike when I got it and it's only done 65,000 miles since. So, not really a fair test in comparison to a pair os Anals.

just sayin'.

Yup , mine came with my bike , less miles , same story ....

I'd say there's definitely a something to crow about!... how many amals (ok anals to you) do you that are still running after that same mileage...?

Well my combat still has the factory installed Amals with over 58000 miles. They were, sleeved by Gaylord at 20,000 miles so not really a fair comparison. They sure work good though. Sorry couldn’t resist.

Neither could I.

Isn’t it daylight down there. Quit typing and go outside and play...with your Commando.

They do work very well on a Norton what's the reason for posting this?

At over 100000 kms the needle and needle jet could be replaced, they can wear even on a Mikuni.

Because I see so many posts saying how Anals are so wonderful and how the Premiers are much better, and then I see a number of posts telling how to fix them. Some people still can't get over the war. Heaven forbid if somebody fitted a pair of Bings.

Probably better to compare a twin mikuni setup with a twin concentrics setup?
Or a single mikuni with a single Amal?
Or it's not really a comparison as people have different reasons for the way they set their bikes up, some want original looks, some want performance some want fit and forget etc etc
My personal preference is a single TM 40

If a single Japanese carburating instrument is good... two is better...!

I have one on my DR780 and its looks to be a good option for a Norton or maybe a single 35mm FCR for those wealthy chaps.

Are those twin instruments unfiltered Nigel?
You must have much better air quality over there than we have!
Very surprising really - given how much bullshit seems to be flying around over Brexit!

Yeah, fair cop Rob. Actually I do intend to fit the K&Ns that Matt supplied with the carbs. The velocity stack are worth around 2bhp according to my testing with them (ie an undetectable difference).

Kinda small bhp price to pay compared to how much time and £ I’ve sunk into building this motor !!

That's an incredibly long way to ride a bike that is missing its top end power.
The rider must have great endurance!
I know of a Vincent Black Shadow rider who rode his bike 400 miles on one cylinder due to an ignition problem. I also know a fellow who rode a Yamaha DT1 from Vancouver to Saskatoon and home because he is a masochist.
Neither of those stories comes close to your epic struggle running 65,000 miles with a carb missing!

That’s funny ! ..... need some examples of the twin amals running glitch free for similar mileage , with no fiddling .... then it would be hilarious .... seriously what is difference at top end , after all these years only went there once ... guess me personally has no need of twin setup .... in fact I did try twin vm32 mikuni on this bike only difference I noted was fuel use went up slightly ... it just a Sunday morning bike now so single works fine and any more than a day ride out , I ride something else ... have not touched the mik since I jetted and mounted it , I drain for winter but that not fiddling .....we all know this is circle discussion , right haha!

Depends what you mean by ‘top end’.

It does NOT only mean maximum speed in top gear.

I had a single 36mm Mikuni on my totally stock 850 motor and it just ran out of puff at around 5,000. Considering the standard red line is at 7,000... that cannot be considered ‘top end’.

That limitation in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear has a huge impact on acceleration. And acceleration is one of the things I love about Commandos. So it certainly wasn’t for me.

On the other hand, if most of your time is spent below 5,000rpm, I would say the single Mik is a very good choice as it’s easy to set up given the huge amount of info on good settings that are out there, very well made and very reliable.

I believe the Premieres are capable of very high mileage without a problem.
Mine were installed 20,000 miles ago and slides look as new.
