Greetings,

I am new to this forum. I have been on the Brittbike forum, but mostly on the Triumphrat forum.

I recently purchased a 72 Norton Commando 750 Interstate. I bought it from a friend of the late owner. The previous owner had owned the bike since 91. I am not concerned that it has a combat engine. Matt w/cNw assured me that all the issues with those engines are repairable. There is 30K on the clock. It had not been rode for a few years. I got it home, filled with oil, fuel, and installed a new battery. It started on the first kick. I did a quick sync and clean of the carbs. It idled smooth, and once I figured out the bizarre shift pattern it ran out fine.

I love my old triumphs, but my kick starter doesn't work ike it use to. I plan to install electric start on this bike and keep it otherwise original.

I look forward to learning from this forum.

I tried to post a photo but did not have any luck, every forum is different, hopefully I'll figure it out.

Welcome Phil ! Sounds like you got yourself a runner right off , good for you , still good idea to check/service some of the safety systems like brakes if been sitting for some time , cleaning tanks, oil and fuel plus carbs won’t hurt anything , also the lay shaft bearing in gearbox is well with a look and or preferably replacement for your peace of mind ..... you will find just about anything you need to know here ! ..... joining as a VIP member makes everything more user friendly too , as well as helping to support the cost of running our forum , again welcome and enjoy your new ride !

Welcome Phil. I have the same model. You will love it. Interested to hear your comparison with the Triumphs.

Welcome Phil,
as Craig said, being a VIP member ($3.25 a month I think) is the easiest as you can upload them directly. Otherwise see my post to another person asking the same question here...

Cheers,

cliffa.

The CNW e-start kit is the best one available. If you insist on it looking standard, you can buy their shorty ham-can, or bob yours.

"Bizarre shift pattern" !!!

It's a normal shift pattern. Everything else is bizarre ;)

Ignorance is bliss, but you may want to check compression, at least for a baseline
