I am in the USA.

I have just tried to insure a 2015 Commando 961SE with Progressive and they wouldn't do it. I have five other bikes with them, including 2018 Harley Ultra Limited and a Triumph Speed Triple, and have no tickets and no accidents. They said it is not me, it is that the bike is unacceptable. They didn't even have Norton in their drop down list of brands.

I then called Dairyland Insurance and got the same run around - they had never even heard of Norton and when they tried to enter it as "other", once the VIN was put in, they said no and gave the explanation that they do not insure unacceptable vehicles.

I have now applied to Foremost through AARP. I applied last evening, at least they knew what a Norton was, however I am still waiting to hear from them.

Anyone else out there having this issue?

I moved my bikes from Progressive to GEICO when I got the Norton and the savings was bigger than the 15% they claim in their advertising.

Well your not alone,I’ve got max no claims bonus on a car & bike,& done The I.A.M. Test, so thought it would be straight forward to get insurance.I got my bike March 2016,stayed in a hotel near the factory to pick up following day,so made the call to “Carol Nash” 4 hours b4 collecting bike & computer said no,& so did everyone else’s apart from “Aviva” who lightened me of £700 . Because the bike was £20,400 with extras then that was what I wanted it insured for , so this was the prob I discovered,it was over £18K & a straight decline from everyone I tried. With hindsight I should of insured for under that & taken out a separate G.A.P. Insurance to make up the difference. My renewal last March I got for £138 insuring now for £16K , so hot tip there for any one getting a bike north of £18K. When I took bike to USA & Canada it was a similar prob & was declined & refered a few times till the bike was put in same category as the Can Am 3 wheeler job, Insurance eh , In India when u ask about insurance on a hired bike they say “ u break it u fix it “

Taking out a life insurance policy and all was sorted and then have slapped a 40% increase because answered that i ride motorcycles. They never asked what bike or how many miles. Bloody annoyed

Was with carolnash on my guzzi V7 for £134 per year. Want to keep it and add the 50th cafe racer so got an alternative quote from Bennetts for both of them and that came in at £239.00 per year for both with breakdown. Carolinas came in around £445.00 so was going to cancel so they lowered to around £250.00 and and about £26 towards it from old policy. Milage 1000 on each bike which should cover me

Interesting, progressive had no issue insuring my 961. I think I'll have my agent look at GEICO. When you have several it add up.

Just checked with my insurance company in Aus today, Youi.

Discounted to under $500 - for the first two years of ownership/insurance the policy is 'new for old'. I'm OK with that, although that would not include replacement of my carbon wheels;

Quick one for U.K. base 961 riders, I contacted Carol Nash to insure my new CR and they couldn’t, without first referring it.

This kinda pissed me off initially as it was Friday and therefore couldn’t sort it until the following week.

But it was worth a short wait, I’ve just over 6 months left on my current policy with them, on which I have 4 other bikes. The cost to add the 961 with a value of £16495 was just over sixty quid!

I was happy enough with that.

I had a policy with them for my guzzi v7 and paid £134 for the year unto 1000 miles per year. Wanted to add the Norton and they said that current insurer would not cover it as they had a limit of £15000 per bike. So had to cancel and take new policy with Aviva through them who covered it. Paid £276 for the two bikes and 1000 miles each. That's with breakdown cover of course. Bennett's were quite good though, they came in at around £265 also with added breakdown. Carol Nash first came back at £475 but then reduced after I told them I would go with Bennets.

I know this doesn't help our USA friends, sorry

I nearly fell out with them when I bought the Panzer. They said I had zero NCD to transfer to a modern bike as I’d spent so long with a classic bike policy, and they wanted to charge me a small fortune to insure the Panzer.

I threatened to leave them, but managed to call again and find someone who knew what they were doing and ‘found a way’ to transfer my years of classic bike cover into NCD for a rider policy.

I think it’s basically down to ‘luck of the draw’ as to who you speak to on the phone, get someone who knows the ropes and where to look etc and you’re sorted... get a muppet and it’s “computer says no”...!

A £15k cap is daft these days!

I tried Carol Nash for a new multi-bike policy commencing with the Norton but they were quite up front with me saying that I had better look elsewhere and come back once I had 1 years no claim. I currently have the Triumph insured with a 'Triumph' brokerage (underwritten by Aviva) and they added the Norton but for a whopping extra £106 just for the remaining 4 months on my policy. When this policy comes up for renewal I will at least then have my 1year no claim so can then shop around for a new policy. I haven't had rider insurance for the past 4 years as my H-D wasn't on the road, sometimes it is cheaper to keep a policy going rather than start a fresh with zero no claims.

I was beginning to think it was only me getting these crazy quotes i have had a full licence since 1971 and i have always owned a bike. Experience all the same problems M C E don't want to know Carol Nash got my Commando but don't want to know the 961 but getting ridicules costs for G T 750 Commando and 961 got one company quoting me £867 only for the 961 limited to a claim of £16000 and want a tracker mad

All I can say is this: don’t give up on a company just cos you get a bad quote or a no first time around. It’s luck of the drawer, a more experienced person knows where to look and what the possibilities are.

When I first tried to add my R nine T to my Carol Nash policy, who I’ve been with for years, they were a big time joke. I called back, got a different person and bingo!

I've also had a bike licence since the early 70s. My Norton 961 insurance has just gone up to £90 for this year. Maybe they increased it a bit because I'm now retired. I've had no problem insuring the Norton for the past 5 years, although that was always with full no-claims. I looked at the multi-bike policies with Carol Nash and Bennetts and the cost was more than insuring the bikes individually (with different insurers). They also said I wouldn't earn no-claims on the individual bikes, which would presumably then tie you in to the multi-bike policy.

The Norton is insured with Zenith via the Post Office.

There are different insurance quotes that offer various coverages. It is better to get a bike insurance separately other than the life insurance as it has special loss coverage. While purchasing for a motorcycle direct insurance the best way is to compare different quotes and then go with the most suitable policy plan.
