What about the sockets? Are there adapters or do you wire in new wedge type sockets, if so where do you buy them? Actualy being able to read my speedo/tach/oil presure gages at nite would be a whole new expieriance!

A word of warning for those of you with positive earth systems, I fitted a couple of wedge type led instrument bulbs (type 504).

I realised they are polarity sensitive and will only work when you fit them the correct way round. This is not a problem with wedge type bulbs but normal bayonet type bulbs will not work unless they are designed for positive earth systems.

Hi Unclviny,

Normal auto BA9S bayonet type LED bulbs are polarity sensitive and will not work in a Commando with a positive earth system.

Auto LED bulbs are designed for negative earth systems. You need to find a supplier that can sell you LED bulbs for positive earth systems or change your instrument bulb holders to wedge type fitment.

If your commando had W3W (504) wedge type bulbs fitted then you could fit normal replacement auto LED bulbs. To change the polarity just move the bulb half a turn in the bulb holder until it lights.
Obviously not possible with bayonet type bulbs as they are earthed through the bulb cap and powered through the centre connector.

I'm planning on running negative ground as I'm building and running (in theory, anyway) a new harness. My deal with the LED's is to take as much load off of the Electrical system as possible. The harness is already proving to be a major PITA as I'm an Electrical moron but I think I'm going to get some help.

I'm worse. I'm an electro-retard but I made a harness no problem. I sweated about it for a month, lost a night or two of sleep and then just did it. It's not very hard actually.
