Indicator Cancel

Two things. First I try to use my indicators every chance I get even if there are no vehicles around. This increases the muscle memory so you don't even know you are turning them off. And secondly, I want to get a way brighter indicator light in the headlight.
If this mo-stop gizmo works, I fully intend to carry on trying to use the indicators as normal - just with the added benefit that they will turn off if I do forget.

Is there an LED replacement for the indicator light in the headlight?

Sounds like we all need something way brighter on the handlebars :) (or saddle, for the pedants)

From what I've seen on the .pdf of the schematic for the mo.stop's other functions, if you use an LED, then you have to wire a resistor in parallel to the LED for the mo.stop's functions to work...

The only bike that has sef cancelling indicaters is a Gold Wing but how you could wire it up to a Commando i don't know. Some clever auto electrition on this site may be clever enough to sort it.

They only show that for the tail light function. I didn't see it under the section of using it for blinker canceling. I have the 2 rear blinkers still incandescent because at the time I couldn't find LEDs that were bright enough. I'm sure it'll work with that setup.

It's probably built into the ECU so that's not going to be practical.

You mean the pilot lamp or the blinker warning light? Yes to both. Warning light is a BA7, pilot lamp depends on your headlight lens.

All this talk about polarity is making my head hurt. Fortunately I have replacement smoke that doesn't appear to be polarity sensitive.

I've been told that yellow smoke= negative earth, blue smoke= positive.
Grey smoke means a greater than normal short circuit has occurred.

I think its marked under the cap. Unfortunately in order to check you need to open the bottle, but by then the smoke is out.

Mo-stop arrived today and it works exactly as advertised. Indicators switch off after 20 blinks.
It is very small and comes with a resistor for use if you have LEDs.
I still have filament bulbs so didn’t need to use it.

The fuse shows how small it is.
Firstly I removed the old flasher.

Then set the mo-stop to 20 flashes .... OFF/OFF/ON

I connected the red wire of the mo-stop to the light greenwith brown stripe wire and the black wire of the mo-stop to the white wires.

I will keep the original spade connectors so that I can always revert to the old flasher if something goes wrong. Just used crimp connectors to connect mo-stop and fuse and cable tied them to the frame with a bit of self adhesive neoprene behind. OK for now - may do something better if inspiration strikes.

Here is a sketch showing the connections, relating to the circuit diagram in the manual.

Only took 20 minutes to do.
Thanks to Ludwig for the suggestion.

Kool beans. Mine arrived today, will install over the weekend. I'm using 2 led's and 2 incandescent bulbs so I'm sure it'll be OK. 20 flashes seems low when waiting at a traffic light, but I'll give it a go and see how I like it.

I guess you can turn it on again as many times as needed, although that could be a distraction.
My main concern would be having it stay on for 20 seconds for a lane change.
7 is plenty there. I get about 3 flashes after completing a lane change.

Agreed. That's where a momentary flipper would be handy. A lane change is usually so short that my thumb never leaves the toggle. I rode with a buddy a couple days ago who has self canceling blinkers on his Harley. He was in the lead and his blinkers stayed on so long for a lane change that I thought he was indicating a turn. There's no magical solution for all cases.

After ten years of using the Signal Dynamics module I would say with its 3 timed modes does nicely cover every driving situation you'll encounter.

thanks SteveC, but for some reason, i'm not getting any of your attached images. I might be able to figure this out based on your text.
