Indicator Cancel

Depending on my mood I still use hand signals frequently...... I enjoy watching the younger motorists look around to see what I'm pointing at.... Clueless... Don't guess they teach that part at Driver Ed. these days.
Anyway back on 'T', I tend to check after turns and lane changes. Although I do appreciate some noise other than crunching metal followed by severe agony.
 
I'm in the habit of canceling my blinkers immediately after making a turn. It's just something that I'm in tune with. My riding buddy George, however, leaves his on for miles no matter how many times I've reminded him to pay attention. It's very annoying when he's riding lead.
 
Sounds like George would be a good riding buddy for me - I wouldn’t look so bad! I generally remember to turn mine off just before the next turn:oops:
 
When I’m out on one of newer bikes , I try and keep thumb on switch when I have signalled for a turn , then once around turn ,push to cancel , yes different than the older bikes , but think a rider could manage something similar ....
 
I leep my thumb on the flipper the whole time it’s on. And only remove my thumb after I cancel it.
Works great.
 
I use Kisan Signalminders on my Japanese bikes. Their units are designed and made in the USA and simply replace the standard flasher unit. There's a number of different models available, but I don't know whether they operate with a positive earth bike. They are adjustable in terms of how long they operate the flashers. You cancel the turn signals in the normal way and you do need to move the turn signal switch back to the off position to reset the unit. No need to change anything other than the turn signal can.
 
I have these tiny flasher relays from Motogadget on my bikes

Load independent, switches off after 20 flashes.
Must have saved my life a few times..

I've attached the Mo Stop instructions below - and ordered one.
Mode 7 (OFF/OFF/ON) gives the 20 flashes then cancel

My friend has an RZ350 Yamaha which has self-cancelling indicators. He had a problem with them and tried by-passing part of the circuitry with the help of someone who is very knowledgeable. The system is quite complicated and their dodge did not work very well. The system has a timer in it, and is connected to the speedo. I've not heard of a similar system on other modern bikes, but you might find a system you can adapt, if you look hard enough around the motorcycle dealerships and wreckers..
 
The Mo Stop looks interesting. No issue with the Norton's Positive ground?

As long as any electronic equipment is not earthed through its body then it can be wired into either type of scheme. Nowadays earthing through the body is very rare, coil on plug or COP are one of these rare earthed through the body items.

I understand that but I am wondering because the OEM flashers are (positive) earthed through the frame. I would be interested in the Mo Stop if that is not an issue.

It's a 2 wire device. Goes inline with the wire from your flasher relay.

The OEM flasher on a Norton is not earthed - the case is isolated from the internal workings. The device in question is 2-wire in a non-conductive casing - no earthing.

Maybe George is too dopey to be in charge of a motor vehicle on a public road.
