I'm new to this lark and have encountered a problem at the first hurdle. I thought it might be prudent to ask, in case there is some simple, obvious or other thing. I'm removing the primary drive and reached the 'slacken the clutch pushrod nut stage. Mine won't come undone. I can stop the engine turning but then the whole clutch turns inside the basket. Cable slackened off. I've tried gentle shocking but no apparent give. Any ideas gratefully appreciated.

The diaphragm spring can begin to turn if the locknut has been overtightened.

I don't think you have overlooked anything, just keep shocking the nut, as it should loosen off with some sharp hammer/mallet taps applied at the end of the spanner?

Glad it worked. Another way is to hold the centre with mole grips.
