Ikon Basix Review

Just fitted them to my Fastback. Bushings were tight but just pressed them in and fitted no problems.

I’m surprised by the variance in the spacers..

+ 1 on the bushes, they were two tight to use on my MK3, I had to put a drill through them turned a quick job in to a PITA, It's worth making the effort , ride quality is very good.

Yes, choice of spring rate. As I’m average (200 lbs fully geared) the dealer recommended the standard spring.

Be careful, there are multiple dealers in the US with very similar names. I kept complaining to the guy about how crappy his website was and I was looking at his competitors.

Nils is super helpful. They are built to order in Australia so I ordered on the 2nd and got them yesterday.

I should be breaking the Proddy in but I keep getting accessories for the Interstate. :)

Which ones did you get?

Yeah, I’m not really amused with the bushes. I know they don’t want to spend a lot on parts that some people will throw away but really, these aren’t $99 shocks.

Much better. I guess I lucked out with the bad set?

You have to say they aren’t ugly shocks. No ride report yet, maybe tomorrow. Need to get back to the other bike first.

Wow Dave, that rear brake cable needs to go!

Me too. Said my model was not rebuildable. This was maybe 5 yrs ago. There looks like a place for a peg wrench but couldn't budge either one even with heat. I bought them in the '70s.

Robert Haag, rhaagusa@yahoo.com will rebuild all types of Koni's. Mine were 76F-1282’s. He sells rebuilt one's on ebay also.

Thanks Don... Good to know about this resource. I will dig them out to check the number and see how they are again. One shaft is bent and may be scored. I have since gone to NJBs and put the Koni's aside somewhere in garage hell. I thought about using the nice Koni aluminum top retainers but they didn't fit. Since then they have been spotted floating around on the floor.

Long term, decorative chrome has a tendency to crack and peel from springs leaving a rusting mess .

I wonder if this stuff might be a good alternative? Not sure how well it holds up to flexing or how durable it is.

I had some Hagons I put on in the early 90s. Replaced them a couple years ago with 7610 SP9. No issues with the bushes. IKONs highly recommended.

Hey Russ, Robert has plenty of parts, so as long as your's aren't beyond repair, they can be salvaged. The only thing I needed was to narrow the bushes and sleeves to fit the upper mounts.
