How much ice happened? I remember working in QC in the late 90's after a big ice storm, looked like a war zone!

Not the super-disaster of 98 Montreal -Ottawa corridor but still bad. Our cracky Mayor stopped short of declaring emergency measures. People getting angrier than usual.

I was involved in the ice storm here in S/E Michigan and I didn't have power for five days fom last Sun. @ 5:00 am until Christmas evening at 11:30 pm. Some folks bad-mouth Hondas but my little Honda generator ran my entire house, with the exception of my well, 24 hrs. a day for the entire ordeal and it never even hiccuped. Good thing the Brits never made small generators for export!

Ugh the Great White North can expect to live like Eskamos every yr with extra to spare for us Dixieland people 4-6" glass like lay and tree cracking-exploding for 48 hr sounding like artiller. ight and day. That was like 5 yr ago, 11 days no power and 6 days trapped d/t huge trees it took county articulated loader and a crew to get drive cleared and then a few more days for ice to crush up for a car to pass. Firewood heat and yr around cave water spring so no froze pipes or clogged toilet.
Took 4 yr to harvest crisscrossed tree falls on fences and into hay pasture. Now working my way up surrounding slopes 50-150 high cleaing the war zone look out and heating to save a few $100 propane a yr. Frist week w/o power is kind of fun camping style but get boring extra work after that.

I'll take out below zero (F) highs any day rather than ice. I was never so cold as when we lived in Connecticut. It never got below +10F but it was damp. I could never keep warm.

Sorry to hear about your troubles.

Greg

70's, sunny and warm, not a cloud in the sky here in Phoenix. :D
I watched the storm with interest as I grew up in the NE US barely a stones throw from Canada. Most of my old buds are still there...including those that now push up daisies.

Cheers and a Happy & Healthy 2014 to all you lads/lasses up in cold country. Frank
