I am really surprised to read this!!
I have to use the M25 quite often and the standard of driving here is appalling in my opinion it's hard to imagine people driving worse!!
Good luck

The clue is 2007 ...the motorists were feeling subdued by the Financial Crisis

Nigel - your bike looks very good . Note from pic you have standard forks ... Why not Japanese? Thin walled and more rigid because of larger OD .. and with alloy yokes quite a weight save

It’s just where I decided to draw the line, we all decide to draw it somewhere.

Mine are coming out soon and having Maxton cartridges fitted and being re-fitted into alloy yokes, so the only stock bits will be stanchions and sliders.

Eddie don't forget to machine the centre out of your kickstart lever as Ludwig did!!!!!
Cool looking bike a little bit cleaner than mine

I am NOT trying to compete with Ludwig !

Yes, I think it’s looking good too, thanks. But I have become tierd of how shiny it is, and I kinda want to dull it down a bit. This time it’s going together with a lot of brushed alloy replacing polished. I don’t like polishing. So having such a shinny bike is a bit daft !

It is nice seeing all the shiny bits get a good patina. It means I don't have to polish any more...

Looking at the reverse shifter it looks to me that you will be able to keep the T160 kicker when you apply the TTI box. My proddy racer bit really
doesnt have the nice bow yours does and I was defeated.
But keep us informed...

Have you tried the proddie racer kick start lever sold by AN? Nice and long, but not as sticky-outy at the spindle end of things.

Problem is it aint cheap and no idea if it will do or not. Tough item to do a resale on.
I really want a longer kicker. I have lost some of the travel because I had to crank it
forward for clearance.

I agree re drivers in the US - terrible as far as recognizing motorcycles. It may sound odd but living much of the time since 2006 in Mexico, I have found drivers there to be orders of magnitude more aware of bikes. FWIW, in the entire time I have been there, I have seen fewer car crashes in those 12 years than I saw in a few months in the States. Most of my time there - up till a couple of years ago - was spent in Mexico City which is 3 times the population of NYC and an appropriate amount of cars to go with that.

Fast Eddie - generally I prefer my Commando to appear stock - though I converted it from an 850 roadster to an 850 in Fastback clothes which, of course, never existed. But I really like the look of your bike. It's making me think a bit along those lines. Nice job! Where are the footrests - shift lever from? Did I understand correctly that they are CNW parts?

Mike, thanks! We all ‘draw the line’ in different places I guess. My intent, although the bike is extensively modified, is that it should still essentially be a Roadster Cdo. Hence I’ve not gone down the proddie racer bodywork route etc.

I described the footrests as ‘hybrid’. What I meant is that I started out with the cNw kit, which is really first class BTW, but the 2:1 pipe doesn’t need any of the usual exhaust hanger stuff. So the exquisitely machined cNw ‘Z’ plates became superfluous. And, because they’re not required to support exhaust pipes or pillions passengers, something quite minimalist is all that’s required.

So I knocked up some simple 1/4” alloy mountin plates. I shortened the main ISO stud and junked the spacers etc and the plate just uses two mounting points. Next job is to punch a 1 1/4” ish hole in them I think.

FWIW, I really can’t praise the cNw rear sets highly enough. The attention to detail, eg the brake cable pull mechanism, is just way ahead of the rest. Folk say they’re expensive, but I spent more £ on different versions of rearsets that just didn’t fit, or work right, etc, I could have saved a packet if I’d just bought the cNw ones first!

Mike, this is the brake pedal side. Note the absence of brake cable pulls and stops and brake light switches and etc, etc.

The brake pull mechanism, pedal stop, and brake light switch (not in use on mine), is all built in.

Kudos to Matt. I can’t imagine a neater design...

Nice! As you noted, CNW stuff is the best...so I'm thinking about a pair of the rearsets. Like you said, I have often done the same thing on a variety of projects - decided to save money and ending up spending more futzing around than I would have if I had just bought the more expensive item to start with. Then I end up with the thing I really wanted PLUS a selection of stuff I paid for and can't use. ;) I have been wanting some rearsets for quite a while but I just didn't like anything else I've seen but those CNW's are the ticket! :)

Not to mention easy access to the primary and a seating position that should have come stock.

Thanks!

Yes I just noticed that too. Looks like Matt has been playing with web sites. Probably something he did just to pass the time and stop himself getting bored...;)
