Not sure if this is the correct section for the intro or not but here is my short intro my name is Stephen and I am from San Jose CA. I have been riding motorcycles for a long time like around 5 years and I used to own a Bmw F650 2012 but sold it a while back for now I don't own any motorcycle for now but thinking to buy a new one.

Happy New years Stephen. This is right place to stick your nose in our Commando business, a much smoother more pleasing and crazy making cycle than anything made after the 70's. If no close calls or crashes from surprise events, five years is barely high school experience with years left in trade school or college yet to earn-learn most the road wisdom's and nick of time reflexes. Don't know if Commando will appeal to you if not able to flashback to ear of b/w TV and rabbit ears fiddling and rotary dial land line phones. If shopping for a Commando what ever costs you bargain to acquire one, to restore roadworthy figure 2-3x's more in tools and parts and paint and machine shops. Should make some effort to attend a big Brit Iron or Norton rally to get flavor of the scope to enjoy and endure. Maybe 10% of Commando owners are online so get to meet and see those you'll never get to here and maybe even a good going Commando an aged out of too injured owner forced to part with to another mis fit. I've a 2000 SV650 race supension and non DOT race tires that's handy as can be but after a Commando its just another utilitarian transport that buzzes valve train and require gear peddling up and dn just to get some decent pull out of so hardly on my mind to look forward to riding compared to out of this world Commando. All other Brit twins will vibe parts and pilot apart so not nearly as rational to use as daily commuter or long distance cruiser. Check the owners photo area at top to swoon on what your own life style could be, if man enough to take on a crazxy making Commando.

Hi Stephen from San Jose,

You're local :) I've lived in the south bay since 1969 and a San Jose State grad. What brings you to the Norton Commando forum? Maybe you are considering the new Norton motorcycle? You mentioned looking for a new motorcycle.

Stephen, I like how you say " I have been riding motorcycles for a long time like around 5 years"...

And folk say you Americans don't do irony...!

Oh we do irony big time. You might have heard of a little known ( and no longer lived by) document called the U.S. Constitution?

AH Crap Glen this is one place I go for relief of fighting with THE Beast operating outside any Constitutional guide lines, so sans driver license for over 2 decades and way worth a few tickets vs being immune to IRS, banking-tax-SSN number reporting or being sued by govt or private persons. Brief review so others can make some sense out of the crazy US policy, when southern states withdrew their Congress critters in 1860 they never set a date to regather so the original "dejure" "Untied States of America" ended so Lincoln's just invoked-created War-Emergency Powers with the Lieber Code-Military Rule 100- Exec. Order #1, that made everyone an enemy of the Federal Govt and used by FDR in the Great Depression days to create the 4th branch of Govt, Administrative Agencies that require licenses to travel, buy sell or work while dealing with funny non substance based elastic federal reserve notes under "Trading with the Enemy Acts" of 1917 & 1933. Its also the basis of run away inflation till built in collapse hits for even worse deflation conditions. Realize no frn's are created but by loaning it into 'existence' based on the Federal Army conquering all people and property as collateral with interest charged but they never create enough 'money' to pay the extra interest so like musical chairs bankrupcy-forelosure-collapse built in so the Global banksters are assured to own everything and pretty much do now. These global banksters are what took down British Industry to end the golden age of cycles we love so much.

Perfect!

Welcome Stephen ... hope you enjoy the site ... fun spot ... maybe you will get yourself a Norton ... then you can really get into all the fun stuff that happens here ... 5 years really can seem like a long time when you are young ... most on here are 'Forever Young' because of their Norton's

Is that the document that was written over 200 years ago by rich white slave owners? I can't imagine how that couldn't be relevant to governing in the 21st century. If we followed all these antiquated documents to the letter we'd still be riding these...
Hi there

Anywho... welcome Stephen.

Oh cool snorton fur covered balloon tires for Commando smooth sailing. The reason things are so sad-bad globally is because of forced fraud with 'words of art' that get applied completely differently than common people use vs specialized and changing legalise terms. One must learn to read above grade level 22+ or simply can not make factual sense of constitutions and detect the criminal fraud at their base. Serious as a heart attack the bickering of good meaning but ignorant people may ensue, please tread lightly because each one of us has their own level of comprehension [can't use term "understanding" accurately here, as in legalease a <>*"person"*<> stating they understand to a judge means they are accepting to come under a specific type of law and jurisdiction they likely have no real idea of what that is and the rules governing its application], soOOO, lets stick to stuff ya really do know or to even ask intelligent questions about. In my case I have one last Admiralty-administrative hearing to set up at STATE then FEDERAL then UN Treaty level so if "law enforcement" "revenue agents" can even catch next Peel/me their computer will say aid & assist only and unless damaged property or people immediately release right back to fast as I dare ignoring "posted" "commercial" "motor vehicle" speed limits that only apply to "drivers" and "operators" "in this state". Roads here are where I have to lean next Peel distal traction behavior in prep for track day safely picking off ringy dingy rigid bouncy balloon tire corner cripples. I hope to get some police talked into radar ticketing me just for proof then get dismissed.

Its less risky life style with rather more payback than ordinary motorcycling and have lived some wild catch and releases and have mentors beg a trooper to issue the 120 mph ticket after trooper had situation laid out, then troop came up to my ole Blue, aka Millinia Falcon Chevy van asking for my DL etc, I said only got passport for safe passage and trying to keep up with my teacher in his Chevy Van. We were returning from deep Mexico vitst. I was shocked expecting to have van impounded but let go and did a few more hours into heart of Houston Texas as much over the ton as we dared. When time came for ticket date in famous TX speed trap between San Antonio to Austin the clerk said the Judge had closed court gone fishing for indeterminate time. Another time in my 6.9L Mercedes had speed ticket no DL dismissed by my mentor while I was flying to Belize to dive Blue Hole. Oh yeah to get the US Const. to work for me on return among 1000's of persons being inspected my wife and i scratch thru US citizen writing American National *people* and passed straight through that time and 2 more over seas returns like we was foreign ambassadors.

Meanwhile back at Commando ranch we need new blood if they can survive riding tests and what it takes to have a fully fettered exotica clunker complex Commando. Get started now as may take a while and its a fun journey to dream and then shop till deciding one to restore basically stock or 'upgrade' for a life time of payback. No one else had yet showed ya what ya in for but here's how it goes for most us Commandos...

Welcome ! Not sure how much you like wrenching on your bikes, but I would consider a Norton Commando from the 60's or 70's to be a real "hands on" motorcycle. They do have tons of character and can really shine when they get the TLC that they require. This is the right place to be if you're gonna get one though, :D lots of great info and good folks willing to help out. Again welcome.....p.s. also often time good for a laugh or two too  I've only been ridin' a short time myself, since about '68

Real cyclers that see ya on any Brit Iron cycle will know its a badge of competent mechanic. I really fogged out for couple years on my 1st road worthy Combat seeing the repair and parts manual as just blurry confusion I had no intension to try to comprehend for real. But this Combat had 13 leaks from forks brake engine and trany so decided to try to take down and work back up just refreshing and resealing to find bent crank, cracked cases, bent tranny shafts and worn away bushes and bad bearings, poor-decayed crumbling bullet connectors and a few fasteners that broke off flush trying to remove. Only took me 5 yrs to get it back on the road but slightly modified by wisdoms of on other forums, lots of machine shop visits and lots of extra tools to boot. After that process rest of life complexity seems pretty straight forward to deal with. Here's some window shopping to scan though I've not looked in at all knowing better after I accquired a 2nd Combat I can't keep up with 2 of em.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome and I already Kinda like it in here :D
So .....you should be able to find a Norton in reasonable shape over there in Cali. Ever ridden a bike with right hand side gear shift lever? Most Norts are right hand shift, unless you go for a '75 MKIII :)

Maybe you should watch the movie 'Just One Week' to get idea about how easy it is to not be looking and still end up with a Commando ... if you test ride you will buy ... good luck ... hope to see pics soon of you astride a shiny black and gold Commando ... right side shift of course
