Yeah, hi, me again. It's time to talk headlights. And make it cheap.

My thoughts:

Headlight options

Something like this.

Headlight options

I'll loose the pilot light.

What else am I missing? I think I'm at about $10.

That appears to be a Car lamp, I bought one years ago for my '73 850 but it sucked as the beam was deflected to the left (RIGHT, THAT WOULD BE THE "OTHER LEFT") so as not to blind oncoming traffic. You need a "straight-on" beam.

Have you explored the idea of a halogen bulb in the existing headlamp?

Hi,

I use a H4 BOSCH unit and a 60/55w halogen wired with relays on both my Commando and T140E. Huge improvement and good safety feature.

Yeah, but I think the bulb sitting in an empty headlight shell isn't going to do much. As you can see I'm missing a few parts...

Would I have better luck going to a motorcycle shop to find the headlight?

Where did you get the BOSCH from?

This is the whitest brightest sharpest legal H4 headlight/ Motorcycle Lens
for US roads/bulb. I've tried a few headlights and this is tops.
Others taking my lead agree'd. The bugger lights up 150yd out
better than my car's dual high beams, sharp cuts of and a concentrated
patch of light right where ya want it yet broad low flood light.

Its another Harley market trickle down item Peel is using.
Her's cost $70 bux a few years ago, cheaper now I see.
The newest German Ultra Lumen Xenon
J & P Cycles is where I got mine.

Sales pitch article that's hard to resist almost exciting to read.

From CAR QUEST

The quality of BOSCH is really excellent compared to the previous unit I had (Wipac)

I got a reflector from Rocky Point Cycle that will fit an 8" shell. It takes an H4 bulb. $35-40 as I recall.

The part # written on the BOSCH box is : 0 301 600 107 - 731 H4-7"

While you are at it, it would be a very good move to install 2 relays (lo / hi) to protect your handle bar switch and a 20w fuse.

Hope this helps!

Same as Littlefield, I called Stan at RP and got the headlight and tail light Halogen set up for around $45. I like it, also got the relay from Norbsa.

You can see the relay in the picture above. I'm going to try a STPT relay instead of two.

The circuit will look like:
Headlight options

It will work a little different than the stock. Power will come from the battery>key switch>fuse panel>2 position switch on the headlight. This switch will be an on/off. From this switch it will power the relay (30). From the fuse panel there will be a power wire (white) that will go to the handlebar switch. This switch will be for the Hi Beam when On. From this switch it will then trigger the relay (86). 87a on a SPDT relay is closed when the relay is not powered (engergized) by the handlebar switch. This means that the "default" setting is for the Lo Beam to be on. When the Handlebar switch is "On" the relay will energize and power for the Hi Beam will come from 87.

At least that's the theory. I'll know if I have it wired up right one of these days.
