Anyone looked at different bars for their T120 at all?

What are the options for different handlebars on the current 1200 T120s?

I’m thinking something like the 60s pattern ‘western’ bars. But I don’t think the original 7/8” bars will fit the new bikes.

Am I correct in thinks the new bikes bars are 1”?

What about switches and grips, do the bars step down or are they the same diameter for their whole length ??

I’m not talking about bar risers here, I’m looking for higher bars.

Anyone ??

Seems I’ve answered my own question…

With the challenges of bleeding the ABS system if longer hoses are needed… and issues fitting the original heated grips… it just seems it’s become a prohibitively big job.

Ironic and kinda sad really, aftermarket bars were THE first thing everyone used to do !

Nigel you should be able to put different bars on as there should be some give in all the handle bars bits, on my Thruxton there is enough to change things around as a lot of folk replace the clip on bars to normal wider bars without any extensions and a mate put risers as well western bars on his T120 without changing things was just his time changing them over, I would take pics for you but the big C got him and is no longer with us, I was rebuilding his Norton motor before his passing and both bikes were sold on even with a 1/2 built motor on the Commando.
RIP Kim.

Ibelieve the dventurer bars / T bird , from around 2000 , were yer actual 70's U S ' western ' bars . Where you sit ' straight back ' and can see over your shoulder . Instead off through it .

Or wasit da thunderbird . Maybe they didnt / get the bend quite right .
Yer ' flat ' Euro / u.k. T 120 / T 140 bars , ave got the same side to side
' drop ' - angle , as the westerns . As in they sit on them , same wrist angle .
a natural rake so the wrist joint is mid range in its angular displacement .

Dentists mirrors were a cheap ttrick . The adornments ae a bit off putting .
Yr original ones got elbows in , wrists below shoulders , and could ' brace '
for flat track type dirt rooad shannanagins . And tie a sleeping bag on em .
As a wind break .
If your going anywhere .

Id go for the real 70's ones , must be plenty around . Unless theyve thrown them out .

Wudda been nice to know what bars he used.

Sorry he’s ’moved on’ Ash.

Yep . ' Norton Flats ' on dog bones , or risers , were common . Drag Bars . Like yer ' Americer ' and ' Speedmaster ' should have . ( only the 50 + year old ones have class ! .
the Dogbones go on a bar thru existing mounts . To lift Std Bars sayy 3 or 4 inch ( 3 or 4 ich raise - spec ) where yer risers - go into the triple clamp bar mount holes , but are ' extra rise ' ditto . ' X ' inch .
Olde Chopper / Drag Bike / Custom - stuff .

In all likelyhood , ' extended risers ' on your existing bars , might be the cheapest trick . But purloining the long cables etc from a Tri Wrecker would be the teenage trick .

oops . theres a set off original 1960 triumph trophy bars . IN ONE INCH DIAMETER . tho the twist grip section is 7/8 th inch . Like Yr Sportster bars .

If yours are on ' risers ' , replace them . People shimmed 1/16th to use the 7/8 th bars in the 1 inch clamps . Back When . The two bolt a side type solid mounts .
Later rubber bushed plug in handle bar mounts , were often de rubbered , to get rid of wobble .

And these are 1969 XLCH bars .

In ONE INCH diameter , . 7/8 under twistgrip ? ? . Bloke had some on a 58 Speed Twin .

theres THESE . Your 70s 650 Euro bars were dead ringers for the earlier ONE INCH jobs . there was another . where that first bend - section - went one inch higher and one inch further out . So were 2 " wider .
Wot dont sound like much , but got your elbows out a way , maybe a I S D T bend . But the outer sit - side to side - gave identical ' rake ' at the outer section , just up & forward a little .

" Handlebar Triumph T120 1960-1963 97-0811, Made in EnglandのeBay公認海外通販|セカイモン " maybe dats dem .

If you put ' triumph Handlebar ' and a year , say 1956 , or 1960 , or 1972 . you get pictures of authentic ? factory bars . often kneurled at the clamp posn. So they dont need to be overtightened .
on google pitchers .

Foitha blather . The ' Euro Flats ' set FLAT or DOWN , are korekt . Whereas fitted going upward , throw your elbows into the gale & set your wrists at a extreme off their action , And stuff up the lever grab .
THEY should be BELOW flat ( horizontal plane ) off bar end . Not UP at least . Like senile half wits ran . ( senile at 40 ? ) ahem . Just seen a picture off a 1950 GP replicer . They appear to be the wider set of THESE .

Woter Yr 1950 ( or earlier ) to 1980 Euro Road Bars . See the drop / droop . SET RIGHT .
Mate .
So , the end off the G P type bend , is ONE INCH - out - back - up - there . At the end .
Yr Massive L O N G 200 m.m. / 8 inch Twist Grip parrallel rubbers are back again too.
if maybe covered in ' Triumph ' script . Mayve been even longer ones . Rather Usefull .

It’s not the the 70s apes I have in mind. It’s the 60s ones, lower but still wide. They give a nice riding position IMO, I have them on 2 bikes already. I never go on well with the 70s apes as fitted to T140s etc.

Old 7/8s bars won’t fit. The 1200 Bonnie’s have 1” bars.

As you say, the 1” 60s bars had 7/8s ends. No good for the modern ones. Padding ‘em out with tin foil is not preferred !

There are spacers available so you can use 22mm bars in 25 or 28mm clamps, such as....

Good info Cliffa. Would create more work with controls and switchgear etc tho.
