Handlebar vibration (2018)

Hi
Handle bar end weights, a lot of new late model bikes have them and is suggested in Tuning For Speed.
From memory (have loaned my book out) Phil Irving said some of the old TT racers, some times filled the bars with lead to stop the vibrations because they were so bad?

handle bar, handgrip vibration - too right front ISO clearance, should be almost perfect smooth

Replace your handle bars with a set of alloy bars steel bars are only 2mm wall thickness where the alloy bars are just over 6mm thickness, my 850 Featherbed is hard mounted and have some vibrations in my handle bars changing to the alloy bars fixed that completely, or you can try the weights inside of your bars will do the same thing.

You really shouldn't have vibration at the bars on a stock commando mate I'd check your ISO's first ,
I have an extra ISO fitted to my my bike plus an iso headsteady but no vibration through the bars to worry about
Cheers

I was about to mention Bar Snake, used it years ago. Cannot say I felt any difference but then maybe the old boat anchor Bonnie I was running was beyond help.

A few years ago I fitted a Renold Synengy rear chain and was experiencing a buzz in the handle bars. It was Andy chain who informed me Renold had stopped making motorcycle chain and Synergy chain was defiantly not suitable for motor cycle use. I fitted one of Andy's chains the vibes disappeared and the chain is still on my bike.

+2 on bar end weights. All modern superbikes have them, and many nice bar end mirrors incorporate them.

Yep - I have a pair of Halcyon 830s on mine - other that the internal clamps they are made from stainless steel (heavy) so work well

Ever notice how the left grip seems to vibrate more than the right?
....because the throttle assembly and mirror act as weights I figure.

I've used something similar to the "liquid" bar snake when I had the low euro bars. It was gray and set up like silicone seal. I get tingling in my hands just sitting around but it seemed to help. I also have a Halcyon 830 mirror. Hard to beat.

I use the fat barrel shaped Beston grips to help with hand numbness.

There are expensive Japanese ones on the market, these are not good, they’re solid rubber and do not isolate the vibes or provide cushion.

The cheap Emgo made ones are the best IMHO, they are softer and hollow and provide great insulation from vibes and a cushion for the hands (especially appreciated if using clip ons). The only downside is, being softer, they wear out sooner.

I used to hate these fat grips as a yoof, but I definitely find they help with pins and needles / numbness that I can sometimes get otherwise these days

Yep - it's on their website, but (LV-4 & LV-5) "out of stock"
I have sent a query to them a few days ago about the solid ones but no response yet.

I've ordered 2kg of lead shot (250ml) to fit and test. I expect close to 1.5kg (180ml) will fit in the bars, restrained by the bar end mirrors (as mentioned above, Halcyon 830s).
Will report on findings.
