I assume that you hooked your battery up correctly for positive earth (i.e. red wires to the positive terminal of the battery) and also I am assuming that your ignition switch was off when your fuse blew.

Oh no, you didn't....

Oh, yes I did! I had the battery leads reversed. Jeez, I need to go back to writing in the "new idiot on the block" thread.

Thanks, guys. Let the jeering begin.

Kevin,
Not only does reversing the battery leads blow fuses, it ruins Zener diodes as well as rectifiers. Now you have to decide whether you want to go back to the original Zener diode and rectifier or buy an aftermarket voltage regulator.

Don't knock yourself too much for having reversed your battery leads. You're not the first and definitely not the last. This is going to happen time and time again!

I worked as an Aircraft Mechanic for a number of years and I can tell you a bunch of stories about "dumb" expensive mistakes done by both mechanics and pilots as well. So it happens to everybody.

Have a good day,
Peter Joe

Yes, next on my list is to check those items to make sure I didn't fry them.

I took a break from the electrical side of things today and upgraded the front isolastics today. Taking them out is one thing; fitting them back into the frame is enough to make a grown man cry.
