boyer pick up plate rubbing/ grounding out on engine case?

Trouble shooting the 850 I found the boyer pick up plate solder joints rubbing/ grounding out on the engine case. It didnt seem affect anything, like it was meant to be, because the bike was running with it that way. If it is supposed to be its kind of sloppy engineering if you ask me. I made a gasket to prohibit touching and it still made sparks.

The soldered joints only secure the straps that retain the coils (ignore the arrow in the first pic.)...

...therefore electrically isolated and yes they're all (or more often than not) like that so there's no need for a gasket.
