Anyone who may be interested in buying one of these devices please contact member: 'ironjohns' and not me (L.A.B.) thanks.

That's a more elegant solution than my micro-switch. What size is that valve?

They look to be about the perfect item for the job.

A friend has a regular ball valve on his Matchless twin. He had an argument with his wife then got on the bike to go for a ride and cool down. The miles piled on, soon he was heading up the Fraser Canyon (he started in Vancouver) and noticed the bike was slowing down.
Forgot to turn the valve on, motor lunched, wife wins argument!
I was surprised how far he made it without oil flow.

Yours probably didnt cost $128 tho.
Yeah, about $20, but he's got a nice looking product there. If I weren't so cheap, I'd get one. It has given me some ideas though.

Good looking product John.

Where is ironjohns?

How much for a 'Mark II' type that is automatic? Like fuel taps have been for decades now? Would a vacuum type like-wise be feasible?

Ironic that you would want an automatic valve on a vintage bike which does not have automatic anything to begin with, not even an automatic petcock

No offense, but it could be an automatic behavior, open petcocks, open oil valve

Yes , or a 'check list' - like pilots/surgeons have, - to prevent needless tragedies occuring.

Automatic (spring loaded) vacuum-operated anti-drain valves have been around for years. Unfortunately they don't 'fail safe'. In the event of a system failure, an automatic valve will close instead of remain open.

non-problem? Huh?

I live in BC, the riding weather here isnt great in the winter, sometimes the bikes sit for awhile. My 650ss will wet sump in a week or so of sitting (new oil pump), my MK3Commando in a month or so, the Vincents take a bit longer.
I managed to blow a seal out of the Commando because I felt like going for a ride after letting it sit awhile and didnt feel like draining the sump.

The 650 ss engine is quite a dry engine except when the sump fills right up, which it does fairly quickly. Then it starts to leak quite a lot as it sits. Dont want to run them in cold rain, snow or ice just to pump out the sumps and I am weary of draining all of the sumps.
I think the goof proof anti drain valve is a great little mod, way better than adding shiny bits!

My bike has stopped dripping from the engine since I installed the valve, so I don't consider wet sumping a non-issue. Stops the smoking on start up too, not that that's a biggie. It is really nice to have the bike dry on the underneath, worth it to me. Not draining the sump is a pleasure too.

It would be nice to know if that Chinese valve is normally open or normally closed. Then there's the issue of wiring problems like Les says. So far no problems with mine, it just seems a bit rinky-dink.

Any component with electrics supply is a risk especially on vibration machines but solenoid valve would shut off engine if its power was lost to stay open. Valves can be ordered in either version, open with power or open w/o power.

Yes, but to be 'fail safe', the valve would have to be open = power off, however that would mean the valve would have to be power ON (valve closed) when the ignition was switched OFF.
