This project started 8 years ago beginning with a rider I bought from a guy in Kansas. It ran, and I rode it once to a rally we have here in Colorado called the British Conclave. I thought it would be the only Goldie at the meet, but another completely restored model was there, too. Got me inspired to get him fixed up a bit. Anyway, I will try to find all the photos I have taken over the years and describe the restoration as best I can.

Here's the way he looked when I got him. Yes, that is the real deal aluminum tank.

and here is what he looks like today:

The project's been on hold for about 3 years while I built a new house (actually de-moed an old house) and rebuilt it. But, now the shop is back together and this winter has been set aside to complete him. I will need a ton of help.

More to come.....

You have come along way since purchase..... well done. Keep the pics coming, im interested..

Yes, a longggg way. Been distracted with other projects for too long, but now it's full speed ahead. All the bits have been sourced (I think) and either replaced with NOS or restored to original. But, it's going to take a week in the shop to figure out what to do next. Might even take a beer or three.

Magdyno mount was buggered up as they often are, so had some machine work to get done. Turned out nice, I think.

Fabricated a plate to fit the bottom of the magdyno and mate with the new base on the block. Fits perfect and doesn't wobble about.

The 1960 model DBD34 had a quick disconnect (QD) plug on the bottom of the headlamp bucket so weekend racers could take the headlamp off easily. It's a bugger to find the socket that goes in the headlamp bucket and mates with the harness. But, they turn up and I snatched one. Then I had to find the correct bucket to fit it into! Time and patience..... :D By the time I get this machine running, I'll be too old to ride with those clip-ons down there like that. On second thought.....no, I won't.

Chrome plating was done by a shop in western Colorado. Light scuffing before paint in areas to receive the blue. Yes, blue. All US model DBD34's were painted blue, not the silver we often see. BTW, the correct blue color is almost exactly the color of blue painter's tape!

Sometimes it's the little things that create the most frustration when going through the first time. The tool box has a special Dzus fastener to keep it closed. Looks like this:

They are really hard to find in the correct size and the tool to put them in is, well....special. But, where there's a will....

Here's what the tool looks like:

Wow that is a beauty for sure, looks like your quite up to the task & doing a top notch job... Always wanted a Goldie but still loving my lowly 441 SS. I for one like the blue color better then silver and by the photos it looks like you painted it your self, makes it look even better!!
