Gearbox Spocket woes....

Yeah, pull the chain and have a closer look, as mentioned above, it looks like it could be as simple as a foreign object has fallen in there.

Fingers crossed...

Every time I drop a nut or washer between the engine / gearbox and cannot find it I swear i'm going to buy an A65. ;)

:mad::mad:
Where's the embracement button:mad::mad: Gortnipper is 100% correct its an LR44 battery out of my Vernier gauge jammed in there!!
Oh well cheaper than pulling the primary to bits
On the subject of the chain, ill be contacting Andy today as i'm not happy about this Chinese chain i purchased from AN
Thanks for your help on this guys

Excellent news - much better to find the pesky battery now than after you pulled the primary apart. Also much better to find it outside any of the cases full of oil and whirly bits!

Hopefully first ride report to come soon.

When I finally got mine back on the road last year it took a few rides and fettling sessions to find all the snags. Actually I'm still doing that 1,000 miles later - It's why we love them :).

Personally I'd use the Chinese chain as it's already on. It'll work fine, might not last as long as a chain from Jason but it'll get you out riding.

BTW - my WIP cable tied brake light switch is working perfectly

Could it be a smaller diameter sprocket (less teeth) and that bringing the chain closer to the box?.

Hi Les, i need to ask AN as i don't have the box my chain came in any longer... just rechecked the invoice and the pt. number i quoted is correct
Could you please re confirm the above statement... Andy chain diddnt recommend the IWIS Elite (which according the AN photo i purchased), so how is it odd that it doesn't fit?
IWIS Elite chain is also what Wassell sells at proper for Norton, it is not. IWIS Elite chain is standard 530. It's not the same as IWIS 10B-1.

Because they can! There’s no law against selling Chinese shit unfortunately... in fairness though, it probably isn’t shit, it just isn’t as good as the recommended stuff.

If you want to ensure you’re buying the chain recommended by the chain man, then I’d suggest the best thing to do is to buy it from the chain man...

But we digress, we’ve already ascertained the chain isn’t your issue here...
And it is far superior to the Renold chain. Not one complaint or return so far.
We will ask the Iwis rep though.

Someone was asking the offset of the counter sprocket earlier so I just did a quick check on my old 20T laying out in the shed. It comes to a couple of gnat hairs over .250".

Yep buy an A65 ,but you may find yourself dropping your trousers instead when you are paying for that rumbling timing side main
Or the extra ventilation that the drive side con rod can give you

You don’t drop nuts and washers IN an A65... they drop OFF...!

If you wanted to place a nut (or battery) in my case into the place it jammed it would be impossible....
With all this time on my hands I tried to replicate it fallen from various heights, locations, angles...and not once would it go anywhere near where it jammed, especially as the sprocket has the inner chain case guard over it and of course the battery tray ...which was installed first  by the way
I suppose someone has a calculation for this using the laws of probability....

I think this phenomenon is covered by: 'Murphy's Law', no?

Renold stopped making motorcycle chain yonks ago. They still make the sizes but don't recommend them for motorcycle use. I found out the hard way.

It's very, very simple. You obviously started with a horn (as all Commando's must) and a battery ;).

My experience is everything around the battery box on the Commando looks like it has plenty of space, but in reality will only fit in one orientation, provided it's been assembled in the right sequence. Otherwise - forget it.

That or it's a similar scenario to the sofa in Dirk Gently's Holistic Detection Agency
