Gearbox oil

Used to do that anytime I could! That way all my UJM-riding friends wouldn't laugh like they did overtime they'd see me kickstarting "that old fashioned motorcycle." ;)

When I first got the bike two yrs ago I put Royal Purple gb oil in gb. Can't recall specific weight or spec but during the first few thousand miles I put on the bike, I fell in love with the shifting smoothness. Note my only other ride is a modern air cooled bonne and its gb is clunky and notchy. When I rebuilt. The AMC box and put redline in, still had the wonderful smoothness. So I don't think I can conclude one fluid is helping more than other in regards to feel. I like redline because it's easily available, has good reported performance, lower price then fully synthetic RP and its a different colour (green in my case) to aid in tracing any leaks.

Gently does it and then give it whatever you want, steady Eddie for me now I'm not a 20 year old. Old bones have calmed my recklessness. Still love the noise and thrill of it ! Maybe I need some Redline. Tee hee.

pretty sure forum member Tornado has real world experience using RP for the gearbox. I have nothing to go by, since my 74 Mk2 is yet to start, and I have no hands on experience with anything related to this bike. i'm doing a full maintenance and service during the cleaning, detailing, and re-conditioning effort, and chose royal purple 85W-140 for the gearbox lube. there may be something out there that's better, but I figure RP can't hurt either. I've put enough thought into the matter, and time will tell....
