I'm no slackard, and relatively new to Commandos compared to others on this forum, but when I took the outer cover off my tranny to replace leaky O-rings, the toilet-paper thin gasket was not worth replacing, tolerances are not that tight given 40 years of wear. A good sealant like Threebond will not squeeze out as mating surfaces are tightened. I've gone 6000 miles, no leakage or tranny problems yet...
Hehe, not really a remark aimed you Northern but the commenter about me and physical clearance clashing I've experimental proof it ain't an issue at all. I've seen the thicker and the thinner gaskets but so long now forgot what was factor or after market. At least the examples here show its a non issue unless some lay shaft slack to take up or over stressing the seams kicking up heels to put a spiral-ling bow in the shafts. GB seams are about the only seams I find no need to lay thread in to keep sealed long term. Any goop will do there it seems.
