Hello, I have 1967 N15CS gearbox number NA15221. I believe it has the correct inner cover with the kickstart spring looped round a steel boss but an incorrect outer, cast part number 06 0722.
I am trying to find the correct outer part number.
The parts book says 028535 but can find no reference th this number
What is the part number of the cover I need ?
And is the part number cast into the cover ?
Thanks Richard

xref 02-8535 to 04-0133

Which leads nowhere but at least it gives a useage list

Fits: AMC-type gearbox 1957-1969
Types: Norton 88-99-50-ES2 650SS – Atlas – G15
/ AJS & Matchless 16M-G3L 18-G80+C+CS G9-11-12 33CRS-G15

Maybe one to ask Andover Norton about, even if they only tell you the differences.

Hello, thanks for detailed response.
Most common one for sale is 04-0406
Do you know which model this is for ?
Thanks Richard

No idea, you need to speak to AN, they have all the drawings. Maybe just ask them why they only have the Commando version listed on their site.

The casting number is NOT equal to the finished item's part number. A cover which exhibits casting number 040406 is likely the correct cover (I have no cover on hand to verify). I don't know of an alternative design made by AMC. You will notice that in the parts book, it was listed as fitted to all heavyweight models (AJS/M + N).

See eBay 186422378247 for instance.

Please note outer covers were susceptible to warpage, so examine samples of interest carefully.
