gas tank cleaning (2011)

After reading a few of these threads it seems that I probably don't need to seal my steel tank, just give it a good cleaning. This is a Commando that sat with minimal fuel in the tank and has run fine since I started the refresh but is now running poorly. I suspect the crud in the tank was loosened up by the fresh fuel. My plan is to pull the tank, clean with vinegar and ultrasonic clean the carbs.

I dont trust liners. If a steel tank gets rusted you can easily clean it every few years.

My 64 Atlas came with a Dunstall FG fuel tank I think its called a Sprint fuel tank its probably around 55 years old if I coated the inside and ran unleaded 91 octane gas without any corn liquor added do you think this is doable or will the tank still dissolve?

No alcohol and it should be fine without doing anything to it.
