G50/7R brake pedal

Looking for anyone who's played with the brake pedal for a Matchless G50 or AJS 7R. The brake pedal has an interesting cable-pull stop that appears to go through the pedal's tube and pinned or circliped in place. I'm wondering why the pin or circlip, and not just welded? It's a lot of extra work when the stop seems to be slotted on the backside. Maybe so you can fit a variety of cable ends? Different lengths for the cleanest cable run?




I'd like to make something similar, but don't quite understand the reasoning behind the extra part(s).

Just thought of it... so it turns with the cable being pulled.
