Hi Guys,

I want to fit aside stand on my 1970 commando, but it has had anew frame sometime in it's life, and the vin plate is blank, can anyone identify the year from the picture of the side stand mounting on the frame.

Thanks

Not too sure, but it looks like you have the very typical frame tweaking already evident from the previous stand. Doesn't look as bad as some I've seen.

It's a pre-72 frame, centerstand mounting on the frame instead of the tranny cradle.

You have a pre-71 (1968-1970) frame and the bracket in the picture mounted on the left frame rail is for the early style side stand. There is a lug that bolts to this and the leg mounts to the lug.

You have a 1973-up 850 style center stand mounted to the engine cradle. If you have the original 1970 cradle, some one has drilled this to use the later cradle.

The lugs visible on the frame crossmember tube are the mounting points for the original early style 1968-1970 center stand.

The photo does look like there is a slight kink to the frame rail, but this could be an illusion caused by the speedo cable curve. I would put a straight edge on that tube to check it.
